I am ready to enter the world of "Capturing" and would like a bit of info.

    My current system specs are:

    OS - Win98SE
    CPU - AMD K6-2 500MHz
    RAM - 327 meg
    HD - 2 x 40 gig WD (7200rpm and 5400rpm)
    MB - FIC Via503+
    CDRW - Que! 24/10/40

I am considering the AverTV Stereo and would like any/all input about
how well the captures will be. I do not mind capturing at the 320x240
as I can always convert to the VCD standard.

    Thanks in advance!

P.S. There is a chance for an OS upgrade to Win2K. I do not know
if this would help the captures but it is an option I have.

P.S.S. How would this do for a system enhancment:

MB - Not sure but a Dual Slot 1
    CPU - 2 Slot 1 PII - 350MHz
    RAM - 327 meg
    HD - WD 2x40 gig (7200 - 5400)
    OS - Win2K Pro.

How would this increase/decrease my capturing ability?

    Thanks again!

  2. Check out my specs. I cap at way over 320x240 with the right driver. You will be fine. And actually 352x240 is VCD. The conversion process is where you will suffer. My 320x240 caps were horrible, cap at a higher res than that. I switched to windows 2k to get by the max file size (4GB??) limitation. I don't know about dual processor setups.

Thanks fmctm1sw, I needed that. I thought that "Great, I bought this card
and now I will have to upgrade my system yet again". But according to
your system specs, I should be just fine.
I am considering switching over to Win2K also. I have an upgrade CD
that I am going to experiment with. I will do a "Drive Copy" of my master
drive to my slave, then make my slave the master and try first the upgrade
then, if that dosn't work out, the full install.
As far as encoding goes, I won't have any trouble with that. I usually do
my encoding at night. I get home from work @1:30am so I'll just start up
TMPGEnc and by morning it should be finished.

    Thanks again!

If you are going to use TMPGEnc, you might want to use the dual processor machine. You would also need to run one of NT4, win2000, or winXP, to make use of both processors for the work.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
