I've put a similar question in NEWBIE section but ... no answers
    Here is the problem:
After capturing a video from my DV Cam PAL System I encode it with TMPG and I obtain a SVCD that I burn with Nero. Playing it on my Pioneer DVD player I can see it on my 4:3 TV with 2 black bars and reasonable quality 8) . BUT ... the image is shortened What is the problem?
Also I still not understand the Video and Advanced tabs on TMPGenc. Which one is for the video input and which one is for the mpg2 video for output?
Another question, please: dp I need to encode interlaced or non-interlaced to see the movies on my TV?

Remember to TMPGEnc's SVCD's template to make your SVCD file before letting NERO burn it.

After many hours finally I get a way to turn my videos to SVCD without distortions playing them on my Pioneer DVD player and 4:3 TV. Well, really they are XSVCD. I use TMPGEnc with: output Video aspect ratio:16:9 display (size 480x576), Advanced source aspect ratio of 4:3 625 line (PAL) and full screen (keep aspect ratio 2). Unfortunately I still get 4 black bars around the video (2 at top and bottom and 2 on each side) but the video is not distorted and has very good quality.
    Does someone understand this?

I had the exact same problem with my pioneer dvd player. I can not totally remember how I fixed it though. I believe I encoded normal 4:3 using tmpgenc but I had to switch the dvd player to 4:3 pan and scan or something like that. It was definately a setting in the dvd player and then all was fine.

  6. I think I am a little bit lucky. I don't see the black bars, but the movie paused at each section even I turned the PAUSE to 0, has any one experienced this?

Yes, first I did also PAN & SCAN on DVD player but I realized that the image was truncated!
