Anyone have any suggestions on how to MPEG encode to a file while capturing through Firewire? I have a ADS Tech 1394 card. I've read that Ulead's VideoStudio/MediaStudio does this, but I'm curious to know what the quality is like. I'm sure I can capture it and then use TMPGEnc, but I'd like something faster. Thanks!

I use Ulead VideoStudio 6.02 and when I capture directly to MPEG-1 or 2, the quality is much less than I desire. I just read about a method to use in Ulead to enhance the quality, though as of yet, I have not tried it. I read this on Ulead's forum. You do save time, but TMPGenc doesn't take as long as say EO Video.
What I have been doing and the quality is acceptable, is to capture in Ulead VS 6.02 to AVI using DVD setting for audio and video. Then I edit the video in VS. I then convert this edited, saved AVI file to SVCD MPEG2 in TMPGenc (I make SVCDs for now), run the TMPGenc header trick on the resultant file (my set top DVD player only plays VCDs) and burn non-standard SVCD to CD-R using Nero. Quality is acceptable for less than DVD.
Hoep this helps.
