  1. I have been using VCDEASY to author VCDs and SVCDs for awhile now. I also have downlaoded VCDs made in various programs (I assume). I notice that when the vcd has a chapter set up on it my standalone dvd player as well as WinDVD on my PC act the same way.

If I skip to a chapter, it will only allow me to ff and rewind WITHIN said chapter. If I want to FF/FR beyond that I have to move to the next chapter.

Here is an example of how is can get anonying:
I put in a VCD and jump to chapter 5. I want to see the very end of chapter 4 so I hit rewind but it stays within chapter 5. In order to see the end of chapter 4 I have skip back chapters to chapter 4 and FF to the end. DVD dont behave this way I dont think.

So im wondering is this the way all VCDs and SVCD act? or did I do something wrong when authored them. It cant just be my player because it does the same thing when windvd plays it on the pc.

Try what Im talking about yourslves and tell me if you get the same thing.

Are you talking about entrypoint chapters? If so then I don't see how this could possibly be occuring. True entry point chapters are just what they sound like, a jump point within one track so you jump to x time within movie and it will play to the end unless you do something. You should be able to jump anywhere and then ff or rw from there all the way to beginning or end.

Did you perhaps make a multitrack VCD? Is each chapter a separate mpg? If so then of course you can only ff or rw within each track. You need to actually use entrypoint chapters.

  3. All of these VCds are made with the complete MPGs (not seperate files). How can i ensure Im using entrypoint chpaters (or at least correctly)? Like when I use VCDEASY I just enter in where I want a chapter to be time wise at under teh chapters tab. Then author. I also have checked under options PBC and use # keys,

If its a single mpg then they are entrypoint chapters. All I can say is that I'm stumped. I cannot logically think of anything that could be causing this. Like I said the chapter time is just a reference that says, start here instead of here, but once your there you should be able to ff or rw as normal. So what happens when you ff or rw to the end of the chapter? Does the disk just end? What happens if you just start from the beginning and hit ff? Does it stop where chapter 1 stops or does it ff through the whole movie?

All I can tell you is that this is not normal. I have made plenty of VCDs and SVCDs in VCDEasy, all with chapters, and regardless of what chapter I jump to I can FF or RW to wherever I want.

  5. ok maybe i should explain better. If I advance to a chapter, [lay a few seconds of that chapter, then hit rewind..I can ONLY rewind to the start of said chapter. It wont let me rewind BEYOND the chapter im currently in. same with FF. FF/REwind only seem to work *WITHIN* the chapter I curreently skiped to. I was thinking thats a flaw of VCD? But you say this doesnt happen to u. Intretsing though if I just play the video and NEVER skip to a chapter I can FF through the whole mpg.

Does that help? Is the problem windvd or my apex 1100w ?
