  1. HI
I am trying to capture movies direct from my DV camcorder to my hard drive by USB.
I can manage to capture an mpg video but when I play it there is no audio whatsoever, can some tell me where I'm going wrong.
I simplyconnect the camcorder by usb select capture in ULEAD and press play on the camera, but no audio on the resulting mpg?

More than likely you're probably just one click away from having audio.

Usually you have to have "Line-in" checked under recording control, at least that's the way it is with my ATI-AIW card. I believe Windows defaults to microphone for recording until you change the setting.

    Double-click the volume icon>options>properties>recording>Ok>select Line-in>then close.

Now for clarity I'm not at all familar with capturing through an USB port.
Is audio and video supposed to be capture together through the USB port or does your DV camcorder have a separate line out for audio? If so, plug the camcorder's line-out to your sound card's line-in.
Evil flourishes when good men do nothing.

  3. Thanks a lot I'll give it a shot, I have used sonys image mixer (the bundled software) and that does capture audio and video through the USB no problem, so I am guessing it is just a setting in windows or in Ulead somewhere.

    Thanks again

  4. Does your Video camera have a USB port? If it's a DV camcorder, it probably has a Firewire port. Firewire would give you better results. You may have to purchase a Firewire card for your computer. Prices start around $50.00. I use Videostudio and a Sony DV Camcorder. It has Firewire, analog and SVideo I/O ports. I caputre using Firewire and have no problems.

  5. I have the same problem. I checked my Line-in and it is checked. I used to capture with audio untill a few days ago. Since yesterday, the audio is no longer captured??

  6. I've had lots of problems with this software and audio capture. It shouldn't be this hard. Some of my problems were issues with the Audio properties needing to be set to 'recording', and then making certain the right input is switched from the microphone default as some one mentioned above. I've been trying to use an ATI AIW capture card and always have to make certain the Audio output of the AIW was plugged into the Line input of my audio card. If I'm not careful every time, the computer will default to the wrong input and no audio capture. What is most frustrating is that while the capture is taking place, I can hear the audio through my speakers and see the video on the Ulead screen only to find later it's missing from the MPG file.
I don't use Fire Wire or USB , but I recall an audio setting option in the ULead S/W that looked like it was for DV capture. Another pet peeve with this S/W - you make a setting and often find within the same session the S/W has defaulted back to something other than what you just set it to. I'm obviously not a fan of this software. It came bundled with the ATI Radeon AIW. The TV recording software that also came with the ATI card does a better job than ULead.

  7. I have a firewire port built in to my laptop but for some reason Sony only supplied a USB lead with my DV Camera, I am also noting that my captured video is slighly jumpy, I assume this is because USB is considerably sower than firewire for data transfer?
