Hi everyone, I'm still kinda new to the whole VCD/SVCD authoring process and I have a question:

I have a source that's encoded in PAL format, at 25fps. I made a SVCD of it in PAL, and it'll play on my DVD Player and TV albeit squished (cuz of the higher vertical resolution I assume). My TV is an NTSC TV and my DVD Player is NTSC/PAL compatible. What I want to do is be able to make an SVCD of the source so that it isn't squished on my TV.

In trying to make the source NTSC compliant, I've tried framerate conversion using the guides here but they all result in sporadically choppy playback, or, in the case of converting to 23.976 fps, the actual movie being slowed down.

What I'm wondering are the following:
- Can I encode a non-standard NTSC format SVCD at 480 x 480 but at 25 fps and have it not play weird on my DVD player?
- Can I leave it in PAL format but give it a non-standard resolution of 480 x 480 and still have it not play weird on my DVD player?

Try not to laugh but I own a Shinsonic DVD-100A DVD Player. (It was boxing day, it was cheap. )

If anyone's had any experience with this sorta thing, I'd appreciate any help or caveats!

THANKS!!
