Hi there,
I would like to ask what's the best tmpegenc version with the least 'block noise' produced.
It's because I've used several version, I update from time to time, I've this friend whom I always do AVI to MPEG conversion, and it's just lately that he told me there are some block noise occuring on the MPEGs I converted, never happened before. I'm using tmpegenc 2.59 right now. Do you think going back to older versions will produce better results? If so what version should I go back to?
Thanks and Regards/
Jerome

I use 2.53 for most things and 2.56 if I need the extra source editing functions. I believe that all releases after 2.56 are optimised for NTSC rather than PAL.

I allways updated to the latest version of TMPG (newer is better isn't it) but I went back to 202 for making SVCD's cause I too think that the newer versions produce more blocks, especially in the background. For me 202 produces a sharper picture than the newer versions. The newer versions have other options that are very good but the 202 works just fine for me. It's just my personal opinion so others may think differently. Why don't you do a short testvideo and convert with several versions and then pick your favorite.
