  1. I have quite a few dvd to dvd-r backups and have several pioneer players that play these discs fine but they are discontinued models. I need to buy a new dvd player that supports nero 5.5.7.8 and up, most burned with dvd video and udf/iso option. I looked at some of the info on the players section but alot of posts don't include which software was used to burn. Please post only if you have tested your player using dvd-r and nero, thanks.
I have used dvr-103 and dvr-104 for the burns. Dvddecrypter and ifoedit also.

  2. well it shouldn't matter what software you use to burn a dvd as long as your player supports that media.....

APex 5131 and 1110W work quite well with DVD+/-R(RW) as burned with Nero and Both Sony DRU-500A and HP 100i.

Memorex, TDK, Verbatim, HP, Maxell and Optodisc media in available formats.

Good Luck. They're cheap at Wal-Mart.

Or, bring a finished DVD-R to Best Buy or Circuit City and see which units they play in.

  5. I have a Sony DVP-NS315. I have not burned anything yet that it would not play...burned DVD-R and -RW, DVDmovie, DVD UDF/ISO, VCD...
used Nero, Gear Pro and DVDXcopy to burn with.
I did burn an SVCD that it would not play but it's not supposed to either. I read the manual after I burned it. Oops

  7. This is a new one on me: I just burned a DVD that makes my Creative 16X DVD/Rom sound like someone turned a chainsaw loose inside it. To make the noise stop I hit the eject button and the disk was still spinning when the door opened up. Thought the disk was going to fly away.
Tried again and still the same noise, WinDVD crashes trying to play it...

Works fine on the Sony DVP-NS315.

If only things were that simple. I have a Pioneer DV-250 that I have yet to get to play anything created with Nero. An older GE DVD player works. Using the same .ifo's, .bup's, and .vob's with imgtool and the exact same DVD-RW media, it plays perfectly. I have observed that Nero insists on changing the order of the files to place a .bup at the end of the directory. Imgtool does not. The commercial DVD's I've done directory listings of do not place a .bup as the last file.

Most of all players should play DVD-R and any new player plays DVD-R.

E.G. all Pioneers - no surprise, hehe. And they play +R/W without problems, but its not included in the manual, cause Pioneer rules the DVD -R/W way...
On the other side all new Philips play DVD -R/W withot problems, and their "own" DVD +R/W formats - no surprise too.

  11. Thanks to everyone for their results.
The reason I need to find a player instead of changing software is I already have quite a few burned with nero and I need them to play without reburning them, and I do mean quite a few.

If you have not the crappiest DVD-R media they should be playing even its burned with nero. Important is that the IFOs are correct(ed) - what surprise...

If you are in the US then check out Apex Players.
Here in Europe, concrete Germany, CyberHome 302/402 playing all (possible) stuff and most Pioneers too. Thats how it should be, hehe.
    Thats my opinion.
Why not check out the DVD Players list here to get more infos about?!
