I must admit it's a bit disconcerting that there are cheap 4x discs available (do they work with the new FW though) but not 2x discs...

http://store.yahoo.com/supermediastore/ritek-4x-dvd-media.html
Anyway I placed an order using the coupon code DVD4Xoff15 which takes the price to $52.50 or $2.10/disc 8)
Can this offer be extended by any chance? -
just make the transitive closure to the g04 at 4x. i'm done trying to find out what 2x media works and what does not.
the only problem is waiting for the price of 4x to drop (best i've seen is slightly < $2/disc from hypermicro). -

The 4x on esbuy looks like the same packaging so I'm either going to order from them or hypermicro next go around.

XP Home (fully patched)
ASPI drivers: 4.71
burner firmware: v1.00
program: DVD Decrypter 3.1.4.0
media: DVD-RW included with burner (OPTODISCK001)
write speed: 1x (only speed available)
playback: powerdvd deluxe v1811 with burner
my toshiba sd-1600 dvd player have no DVD-RW capabilities
*what a BIG relieve!....... more tests to come with various programs and media*
- happy burning - -
Dunno what the fuzz is all about...
I'm very happy with my Pioneer DvrA05
Ok, the DVD-R media gives some problems...but after a little puzzling there's a lot of good 2xspeed media around (Datasafe/Datawrite 2xspeed for just above 1 euro) - the 4xspeed from Pioneer is the only one I tested and I'm going to be patient for another month for other supported 4xspeed media...
Btw. no burning problems with Nero v5.5.10.0 if you use DVD-ROM (ISO/UDF) with physical partition UDF1.02 (also no multisession and use PURE ISO9660)

Hello people,
i must agree with mage813, he is absolutly right.
Almost every cheaper media don't work with pioneer 105. Some like Princo, Worldgate and Intenso that i already tested gives reading problems in almost every Home DVD players.
I already flashed my pioneer with the new firmware 1.21 and i didn't notice the diference. It is the same Shit. Pioneer SUCKS!
The costs are too high right now.
I started to analyse this problem i am start thinking of who is the guilty for all this problem and process??? ALL OF THEM ARE GUILTY! Some more than others, but they are all guilty.
First, Pioneer. They have putted in the market a DVD writter that is very restrict in DVD Media compability, only the expensive media works. They think that everybody are rich??? In my country, Portugal, a princo media costs about 2.5 or 3 € (the value between euros and dollars it is very close), and a TDK Media costs about 8 or 10€, are you seeing the diference????
An advice to pioneer, fix this DVD writter problem, don't cheat customers with your Marketing or you will see Sony smashing your sells.
Second, for nero. They always have done a good work with is software in CD-R Burn, but for DVD-R...oh my god, it is terrible. They don't see this posts???
The veritas software cames with the Sony DVD+R, and he does what he means to do, Burn DVDs. This software works great with every DVD Writers without any known bug that makes you have COSTS.
Veritas have great software, like backup exec for server backups, and one more time a great softare to Burn DVD's as also CD's.
Nero must do something or they will make part of history. For me, they are now.
Third, Cheaper media. When you look at a cheaper media and a more expensive one at the same time, you will note the diference. Cheaper media like Princo, worldgate and Intenso has a terrible manufacturing quality. Of course this media are guilty too in this process.
An advice to cheaper media, change your quality for something better and don't just be limited to sell shit.
Fourth, HOME DVD Players. There is a big diference between some Home players. Some, like thomsom are suposed to be good and are not, Thomsom players SUCK! A player like mustek that is very cheaper it is just great, it is one of the most compliant DVD's in the market. Others like Sony and Panasonic, but specially Sony are great, expensive ones but works great. So beware when you buy a home dvd player.
Final Conclusion: Everybody wants to buy cheapers DVD Writers, Media, Software and Home Players. But you can´t buy every cheapeast things.
There is Just one cheapeast thing that you should not buy, THE PIONEER!!!!!
The Sony DVD Writer, has no problem with Cheapeast media, you could use the cheapeast media that is burned with Sony with every DVD Home Players, so you if you have a sony you don't need to buy the most expensive media. You don't need to buy nero, Sony package has RECORDNOWMAX, that is an excellent program.
I will try to sell my pioneer and buy a SONY DVD+R, and that's for sure that i will never have a single cost again. I will pay more for sony, that's for sure but i will recuce the costs with no need to buy software and i will recuce a lot of the costs in the media.
When you buy a car that has manufacturing erros and problems they tell the clients to deliver back the car so they can correct the problem. Pioneer should do that!!!!! -
Geeeeezzz Neopunk,
there are just too many standards out there...
From the burners, to the standalone players, to the media.
I think it's useless to get angry with Pioneer, why don't you just find a subtle way around the problems you're having.
If I can use my Pioneer DVRA05 with cheap (under 2euro) 2xspeed media that runs on every standalone player I tried why can't you??
And for the car metaphore - should you bring your car back when it doesn't run on limonade
br,
Remco"Drawn beyond the lines of reason. Push the envelope. Watch it bend." -
Imation 2.0 works well, as do Verbatim 2x. Used them as both data and movie dvds.
-
yes but there are "expensive" media.
Anyone tried these:
http://www.allmediaoutlet.com/P-DVDR-4.7-GEN2Xfree.html -
Hey Remco dude, i didn't say that the pioneer don't burn in every cheaper media, in fact it don't burn i almost every cheaper media. Has you could imagine, i don't have every media been seeled in front of my home door. So I have already tried 4 types of media, and all of them didn't work, it was not just with me, but with everybody that has a pioneer 105.
Even the Store where I buy my media, that sells princo, worldgate and INtenso in thousands per day, has admited that almost every clients complains for this media in pioneer and they where forced to try LG, they will receive LG Media in next weak so the clients could try a new one.
So where is the problem? In the media or in Pioneer??? Who has Sony writers don't have any type of problems like this.
Why I am angry? Because a DVD-R costs 3€, and i have 30 DVD-R that don't run in almost every Home Players. So 3x30 means 90€.
Sony deserves the price diference that we pay for his DVD Writers.
Look to every posts in this forum and you could analyse that almost eveybody that has a Pioneer, has or had problems with Media.
Best regards. -
I got a 105 and have been burning cheap dvd pro discs no problem.I think some times its a problem with the user and not the drive.
-
Hey ripper, if you wanna be stupid, be it! I would bet that my know how in Tech things would be thounsands of miles better than yours. So if you think that the problem is between the chair and the keyboard, just don't be limit to say that is, explain why. Get the media that I already refered and burn it in your Pioneer, and see the results. I think i was very clear in what I said, I have mencioned the media and said that some work and others don't work, see??? Do you know what i mean???? Or you need a Draw?
-
"All cheap media are equal.
Only some cheap media are more equal than other."
Hey people keep it cool!!!"Drawn beyond the lines of reason. Push the envelope. Watch it bend." -
mencioned the media , You can't even spell , go get hooked on phonics, then learn how to auhor a dvd.
-
hey guys, why don't you knock it off or take your petty argument private?
So anyone tried the cheap media I linked above? -
Dont know the situation, but no problems here with my 105, works flawlessly. Maybe user prob, or hangup against the maker??
BoogieMan -
Do you consider 1 US dollar cheap? I am using the Ritek G03 from hypermicro. Absolutely no problems, have done about twenty so far. Well, the only problem is they only burn at 1X. By the way, the 4X Ritek G04's from there are also flawless, but are 2 US dollars each. For me, its worth having a few of these around. I have (had 50 of each. Sometimes I just want to whip through some in 15 minutes each, sometimes I have time to leave it for an hour and go do something else.
-
In response for those who said that the media thing was user problems, I can say that I tried Princo, WorldGate, Intenso some old Bulpaq Media and all of them did have reading problems with Home DVD players. So I tried Sentinel Media (www.sentinel.be) and in 10 copies I tried it was all OK.
So it was user problems isn't it?
Has I said before, the pioneer is very sensitive with the media that you use with it, that's because Sony writer is better than pioneer. I know one guy that have a Sony and a Pioneer writer and he tried almost every media that I used and he didn't have any problem when he uses Sony to write DVD's, but he told me that when he uses Pioneer to right in the same media, in 10 only 3 will work.
So, if you have a pioneer, first test the media that you buy. If you don't know if it works with the pioneer, first try to burn only one or two discs, if you don't have problems, keep that one. -
You get what u pay for, if u want to buy the cheapest crap out thier than when it does not work do not complain. I have both a DRU500A and I just got in the A05 yesterday. I have had no more of a problem with one or the other. Visit the topics on Sony and u will see people have prob. with it also. I have only used 4x Disk as of now but I will update with the results of the 2x disk. I am not saying cheap is bad but if u can not afford the insurance on a Lamborghini than do not buy one. Hope everyone has as much success as I have had. Also remember english is not everyones language so not so hard on the bashing.

Hey dude, how much do you think that the media costs in my country???
Yah, I have seen in some of the posts that princo media in USA costs 0,5 Dolars, do you know how much it costs in my???? 3€( same as dolars). Do you think that we are rich here??? An TDK media costs 8 or 10€ here, do you think that we can afford that ???? Of course, if you pay for a good media wha i pay for a bad media, what can you complain for????
Try to help who can not afford the expensive media, help those who need, and just leave those stupid comments.
One more thing, I didn't buy a Lamborguini, do you call a Pioneer a Lamborguini!!!!???? Don't make me to laugh! -

Ritek cakebox generic media burns at 2x. Under old firmware they would not burn properly at all. These are $0.80 discs and I usually buy them.
Expensive discs burn at 4x of course.
They should have released the drive with good firmware to begin with, but at least it can be fixed now if you update yours. Good luck!!-MPB/AZ -

Pioneer doesnt wanna look bad by allowing you to burn cheap media, which has a good chance of becoming a coaster, then blaming them. -

So if u could not tell I was telling the Forum to not bash u . The point is if u can not offord the media do not buy the product. -

Huh! Is that the G03? No one advertises it as burning at 2x so that's pretty good news. Where did you buy it from?
And isn't the new FW 1.21...? -

It was $39.99 for a 50-pack cake box.
Upon further testing, they burn perfectly 100% of the time, but about one in four of them reverts to 1x burning. This is consistent with both PrimoDVD and Ulead.-MPB/AZ -
