Final Cut Pro 3: rendering is necessary?

Assuming that I want to simply export a video+audio stream to mpeg2 using FCP3 export plugin, do I have to necessarily render all the video? It takes a long long time... other methods?

save it as uncompressed or as Qt (using a good quality codec) and render it on a intel box instead with mainconcept or CCE .. takes about 1/2 the total time or even less when we do it this way ..
