  1. I have looked all over Virtual Dub for some setting or something that will tell me what a PCM wav is. Can anyone help. I am atttempting to use a new encoder (Xing) and it keeps telling me it will only accept a PCM wav for the audio. Thanks much!

PCM (Pulse Code Modulation). It's a pure sound (digital sound).
A sample: when you grabb your CD-music (from your Audio CD to the hard disk) you create a PCM wav file(or .wav)=> 44,100 hrtz. Other sample: NORMALLY you encode your .mp3 files from .wav files.
Directly to the problem: NORMALLY almost encoders(like a Xing) needs to read a PCM wav file to encode it.

  3. Thanks for the response. Now it leads me to ask, how do I pull the sound from an avi and save it as a PCM n virtual dub? And if not in that program, what program do you recommend? Thanks again )

OR IF ANYBODY HAS A SOFTWARE NAME THAT READS .AVI (part of sound) AND SAVE IT IN .WAV, PLEASE INFORM HIM. TKS ALL.

    P.S: I don't use Virtual Dub.

    Hi Keybored,
I found SOUND FORGE XP STUDIO 5.0 software.
    Go to: http://www.sonicfoundry.com/products/NewShowProduct.asp?PID=460.
This software supports 17 sound files (import and export 17 sound files), include .avi and .wav.
The price is $59.97. I don't know if it has a trial period. Go to that website and verify all about it. OK???
    Good luck.

http://www.goldwave.com has a great program, and the trail version is the same as the full version except for a serial number

Also download the "Lame" thats on the site, then you can use MP3 as well

  7. Just use VirtualDub - load the avi, and choose "Save WAV" - insuring that in the AUdio section of VirtualDub, you specify "Full Processing", and "Save as PCM AUdio".
    Nothing to it.
