I have this simple question and I am hoping for a simple answer...
I've looked around and tried some things, but just can't work it out.
I want to take selected chapters from several DVD's and combine them to one "best of" DVD-R. I preferably want to do the authoring with Pinnacle Studio 8.
I've used DVD Decrypter and SmartRipper to extract the .VOB's for the chapters I want. I know how to demux to .M2V and .AC3. But how do I combine them again to get the original .MPEG2???
I've tried TMPGEnc, with option "Mutiplex" under "MPEG-Tools", but this seems to re-encode somehow and the thus generated .MPG's seem to generate unknown errors in Sonic MyDVD and Pinnacle Studio 8.
I just can't seem to get the original .MPEG2 files with normal stereo sound and - if present - subtitels. I do not care much about the subtitels though.
My idea is that I do not have to re-encode, like with ReMPEG2, since I just want the original .MPEG2 file. With sound. That's all. Simple, isn't it???
Any suggestions, please?

I know about other authoring software, but I prefer to use Adobe Premiere or Pinnacle Studio.
I just want to know how to extract the .MPEG2 "directly" from the .VOB!
Thanx anyway![/quote] -

I know I succeded it once, ripping with DVD Decrypter. Later I tried Smartripper, had to install ASPI, and now both seem to give bad .AC3 files. At least, That is what TMPGenc tells me... -
when loading ac3 files into tmpgenc muxer , make sure you use the drop down list and slect ac3 file type or they will not load ...
never mind the "you MUST use CCE" statements thrown about ... believe me, though slower, you can get superb results from tmpgenc. -
Doesn't work either, but I found something else.
I now use DVD2DVDr to do the same as I did with DVD Decrypter and SmartRipper. This gives .M2V and .AC3 I can multiplex in TMPGEnc. I only get the "packets cause buffer underflow" warning, but as I understand, that's meaningless. Anyway, I've managed to author a perfect DVD-r with the output!
I've used Sonic MyDVD to edit the as above described obtained .MPG's.
Works perfect!
Thanx for all the help! -
I use smartripper to extract the vob for each chapter then use dvdx to convert vob to any mpeg I desire at any bitrate or resolution.

Converting means changing something, and imho you can never get more quality then the original!
