  1. I am sure this is a common question around the forums, but I am new here and I can't find an answer to my question. My father and I just purchased the WinTV program mainly to convert our old VHS home videos to VCDs that the salesperson told us to do. Fine...I get that. The problem is that the only DVD player I own is a PS2...we want to make a copy and send to my aunt but I don't know how to test it to see if it works. Is there any format at all to play on a PS2? Thanks for any posts as all feedback is helpful.

  2. Playstation 2 cannoy play VCD or SVCD i'm afraid. If you want to watch your videos on a PS2 you're gonna have to get yourself a DVD burner and use DVD-/+R.

and what does your aunt have to play vcds? some sstandalone dvd players do not play vcds so you could be wasting your time anyway

  4. secretagent is right, some standalone's do not play VCDs, but the VAST majority do, and some will play SVCDs, which will look alot better. What I would do is find out what make and model DVD player your aunt has, then look it up in the DVD Player database here on this site and see what it will support before you start potentially wasting discs.

If you want to watch dowloaded or VHS-transfereed movies on your PS2, there is an brand new application that will let you watch DivX movies on it, but it's a bit of a pain and it probably isn't worth it to you. If you are interested, there are some threads related to this floating around these forums right now, just read up and then figure out what you want to do.

    Hope this helps,
