  1. I got this TV tuner the other day and am having a hard time capturing video. If I use the VCR program that came with the card, I get an error message saying "Create Video Encoder Filter Fail", no matter what resolution I use.

If I try and capture in VirtualDub, I can only cap at 320x240. If I try and change it, it says "Unsupported Video Format".

I have tried the drivers from Avermedia's website, the ones that came with windows, the one's from Soundforge and still have the same problem.

I would like to record higher that 320x240, because I would like to encode it for SVCD. Any ideas how I can fix this problem? TIA

  2. hmm...i'd have to say that your having some sort of driver conflict. I don't know if this will help, but this is how i installed my btwincap drivers.

I installed the AverTV drivers that came with it. Then I downloaded btspy and the btwincap drivers. I ran btspy, setup a profile, then used the btwincap drivers with the profile i made with btspy. It works good right now. Hope this helps you.

  3. Once you get the driver conflict solved the default tv app
will capture but only to mpeg modes and if your machine
is not fast enough you will get unsynced audio and jerky video.

I found (my WinXP machine) that virtual VCR did the best for me
after swapping out the capture drivers with the ones from the
    iuVCR web site.

Haven't tried the drivers from sourceforge yet.

  4. Had the best luck with my AverTV studio using the latest drivers from there site, they also have a uninstaller for the drivers, use it, removes them quite well...

I thought i wasted my money and bought a huge POS when i got mine home and installed....

    Some things to do!

1 get the latest drivers from there site
2 uninstall old, install new drivers
3 trash the software that came with it!

I tried pretty much every capture software available, WinDVR, and IUvcr were only ones that I could get to work decent, I settled on IUvcr..

I'm still a relative noob to capture but I was forced to learn fast with the Aver card Once I got the problems worked out I'm fairly happy with it...

    WinXp is my os....

My Aver is AWESOME. I can cap in whatever resolution I want (that is I can capture higher than NTSC TV standard, but there is no point). Get the tricked out drivers, BUT BEWARE!!! There are a lot of authors that forget PAL only works in 1/2 the world. Don't mix driver versions( the little warning about non-US version, if you use US standard, and vice versa).

However, as far as VCR function I'm FUBARED. iuVCR will only cap at 25 fps, despite my earlier post with a solution. Power VCR does an awesome job, if you like a bunch of 650 MB MPEG2 files.

Basicaly, after a week I still don't have a VCR program that will cap to a non MPEG 1/2 file. I still have hope, I found a good prospect on another forum. I'm more of an 2-pass DivX/XviD type, and I don't care about SVCD/VCD caps(although I do convert them, it involves an extra step unless I cough up $100 US for a CODEC).

  6. 1. Remove the AVerTV card from your system.
    2. Download the newest drivers and the uninstaller from AverMedia's site.
    3. Run the uninstaller to get rid of the drivers that are currently running. Also, uninstall the VCR program if it is separate.
    4. Look in the Device Manager under the System section of the control panel. Make sure there's nothing referring to AVerTV in the Sound and Video section. If there is, remove it.
    5. Put the AVerTV card back in and turn your PC back on.
    6. When the computer boots up and prompts you to select some drivers, choose the ones you downloaded from AVerMedia's site.

This should get rid of the traces of the old files/drivers, and replace it with the newest ones.

You only need to alter the Maximum File Size in the registry and your 650mb problem will disappear.

I resolved my true problem, the iuVCR 'tweaked drivers' don't like NTSC. I changed those out to OEM drivers and I'm back to 29.97 fps. I know about power VCR reg hack, but the whole problem with it is i don't want to cap in SVCD. My end product is NOT for a dvd player, and SVCD caps have that MPEG look to them. MJPEG at 95% and a 2-pass XviD encode looks exactly liek the original (snow and all!)

    With PowerVcr

    I capture a CUSTOM profile.
I create a new profile edited from the DVD PAL profile to .....

    Mpeg2
    720 x 576
    Speed 3
    Bitrate 7500

I get great results. Obviously if your in the NTSC area u edit the NTSC DVD profile.

I then encode to SVCD or you could encode to DVD (I don't do DVD I dont have a DVD burner)
I know others who create DVD with these settings with good results tho.

  10. I did get the VCR program in AverTV working. I had to install some FilterSDK or something.

I still can't get VirtualDub to work.
