Just wondering how many PC DVD writer users and DVD video Recorder users have tried to make use of the supposed features of these two systems. The Forum quotes VR as the video recording standard for the minus/ram units and the Alliance quotes +VR as the recording standard.
My queries are regarding the "flexibility" and "usability" of both these styles. As the owner of a RicohMP5125a I am more than happy with the current +VR arrangements on a PC video only basis, but I would certainly like to hear from the minus protagonists regarding the possibilities of VR mode on PC writers and DVD recorders. In the longer term a DVD video recorder of some description will be the end result.....which way to go??????

Appreciate any and all constructive comments.

    OK,
After some further test runs with +VR capable software I can report that NeoDVD does a reasonable job on the encode to DVD direct. +VR allows a direct to PC DVD+ recorder with the advantage of direct appending of the disc (+RW). So what does this mean in comparison to the minus camp. +VR is FULLY DVD-Video compliant ie put the disc in a (+RW) capable player (currently about 69%) and away it goes.
As an alternative to using the +VR options you can create a DVD Video disc with Neo direct from source in real time. The problem is that without +VR functionality the disc cannot be directly appended, rather the existing video on the disc will be sent to your HD then the new video is captured and encoded then the two videos are written back to the disc after with the standard VIDEO_TS directory and Structure. Therefore it appears that a compliant DVD Video for minus of this style requires PC overhead to reconfigure added material. Ever wondered why the minus and ram camps use 2 formats on their DVD recorders, because DVD Video (the Standard) cannot be written and appended by a minus or ram recorder without some form of overhead to write to and from. Hence VR for minus and Ram, a format that cannot be played in most existing DVD players. If any minus people can contradict this I would greatly appreciate your input.

Why am I putting this here? I believe one of the points of interest is to show the differences in each format. If this means little to you for your usage of DVD writing then fine.
