  1. Does anyone know if there is a MPEG-3 Encoder? or MPEG-1 conversion to MEPG-3? If there is; is MPEG-3 better then MPEG-2? Thanks.

There is no MPEG-3. I believe there was supposed to be for a time, but they rolled the changes into MPEG-2. You have to jump to MPEG-4 if you want to move 'up the scale' from MPEG-2.

That said, MPEG-4 isn't necessarily better than MPEG-1 or 2. It is a newer codec, so more efficient and theoretically you can get the same quality picture at a lower bitrate than MPEG-2. MPEG-4 also provides for all sorts of multi-media encoding- more than just simple compressed audio and video.

I think (i may be wrong) but mpeg 3 video is juist a high bitrate mpeg 2.

"MPEG-3" was created for high sampling dimensions (resolution). Later it was merged into MPEG-2, now it is part of the MPEG-2 high 1440 level and the HDTV high level (1920*1080). Obviously there was no use for a separate MPEG-3 video compressionstandard.

well mpeg2 can go to 4000x4000 and so can mpeg1 ... do you mean data rate instead ?

    mpeg2 high def 1080p or i @ 50meg/s bit rate looks mighty good -- looks even better @ 118meg/s

  7. I have heard that DivX is a form of Mpeg4 or something along these lines, is this true?
