I've had this problem before and would like to know whats happening so I can fix it easily. TMPGEnc loads my MPEG2 file fine, for converting, until I install Sonics DVD software. Then TMPGEnc always says the fil I'm opening is "unsupported". What is Sonic's DVD DVDit altering, and how can I restore whatever was before? (windows XP)

just install powerdvd and it will install as the mpeg2 codec. if you dont have it i think there is a free trial that would work

Actually I do have powerdvd and reinstalled it earlier as a try, but tmpgenc still wont go with opening files. I think dvdit changed the mpeg2 decoder and uninstalling dvdit or installing powerdvd wont fix it. When this happened before, I actually reinstalled winxp from scratch to fix this. In control pannel I even tried removing the video mpeg decoder (wasnt sure if its from dvdit), but it keeps reinstalling it when I play mpeg2 in windows media player. ???

  8. and yet, I have TMPGenc, MyDVD, and a number of other programs, and they've never interfered with each other. MPG1 MPG2 fine and dandy.
But then again, I'm running Win98 and not the newest TMPGenc either.

powerdvd will not reg mpeg2 decoder on top of elecard codec and also a few others -- i ran into this also , installing m2edit pro will cause same problem ..

unreg is "REGSVR32 /U <name of file>" the trick is to figure out what name of file is ..

install and run this app (i forgot who suggested this but great app) http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/audio/dxman.htm

and it will show all installed and running stuff -- you can figure it out from there

Well its fixed, but I dont know how/why. I used dxman to remove the decoder that listed when playing mpg in win media player, and tmpgenc then worked again loading mpg files. I reinstalled sonic dvdit to see what happens, and tmpgenc quit working again, but now in win media player, a different decoder was showing, the ligos(sp). I uninstalled dvdit and powerdvd too, then reinstalled power dvd. Tmpgenc works again. No idea why! But dvdit does seem to be the problem, but what its doing and how to exactly fix it is unknown to me. Just trial and error to fix tmpgenc, and avoid dvdit.
