Adobe speed on writing MPEG2.

Hi,
I have a video clip of my pictures (MPEG2). I brought it in AdobePremier and applied sharpen filter. Then I do MPEG encoder to write out the file.
It takes for ever 2 hrs for 2 min tape ?
My machine is Athalon XP 1700+ with 394 MB.

Any setup in the AP that will take advanteage of 3DNow etc.
I see that on startup it detects MMX.
