There are a few guides under EDIT, left! The reason I asked, was because SVCD supports selectable subtitles, whereas VCD doesn't, so they have to be added before encoding (or during reencoding, resulting in quality loss).

  4. how do you add sub BEFORE encoding??

    my process is:

rip dvd into mpeg using EazyVCD, fast and pretty good quality
use 'subrip' to rip the subtitle
use 'virtual dub' to put the sub to the mpeg and serve it to 'tmpegenc'

    DONE! mpeg w/ subtitle

    then burn it using vcdeasy

any easier method w/ fast and good quality mpeg??

I'm not sure what you mean by "put the sub to the mpeg" - If you're talking about the original DVD MPEGs, then we mean the same thing - you take the source material, add the subs to it and encode (the subs are added before encoding to VCD format MPEG).

If you however have a VCD format MPEG, run this thru VirtualDub to add the subs, and then once again encode it in TMPGEnc, you're gonna loose quality.
