Here we go again.
DVD+R is more common in the USA.
Microsoft next windows version will support DVD+RW nativly.
DVD-R seems to be bigger in Australia and Europe.
Though Netherland is +R due to Philips hometurf.
I would put my money on DVD+R. -
Now I have both DVD-R as a Stand alone DVD recorder DMR-E20 and the DVD+R as the HP DVD200, 1st of here is the cost difference.
DVD-R Blanks - $1 ea. for Primedisc
DVD+R Blanks - $2 ea. for Primedisc
I have found that the +R's play better in my DVD Players over all than the -R's
Those are Sampo 631cf, Daewoo 5800, Panasonic E10, E20 and RA61, whats really strange my panasonic DVD recorders are not suppose to play the +R formats and they even play the +RW's also, LOL.
Whta nice about the +R's there are no difference inpseed of type of blanks all media is 2.4x and I can burn a 4.7 gig disc in as little as 15 minutes the longest time so far has been 25 minutes, I have done complete backups in a little as 35 minutes.
When I took my +R's and -R's out to test at different stores they both played in about the same number of players about 70% of any I tried about 50-60% played both, the only name brand I seem to remember that would not play a +R was pioneer even though on this web site it said it would, the DV-250, my parents ended up buying a sharp that played both formats and frys had it on sale for $69, with component output also.
Best universal stand alone DVD player was anything by philips in played everything, VCD, XVCD, SVCD, XSVCD, MP3, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW.
At this time its just your personel perfrence, I'd get what would play the best in your and you family memebers DVD Players, as a friend that has a Burner to borrow a +R and a -R and try them out.
By the way I got my HP for $288 and it has worked with any software I have used with it, including NERO .5.5.917 and adaptec Roxio on the CD-R side.
