  1. My friend wants to buy a region 2 DVD, so he was wondering if he could copy the DVD to a DVDR and not include the region code.

    Thanks

  2. copying to a dvd+r/rw removes any region encoding as far as I can make out. I use the DVD2DVDR Guide for Dummies posted on this site. It gives great results and there are only a few DVD's I cannot copy.

Majority of methods will allow you to select region free and macrovision free for that matter (it's only a flag to tell your DVD player to turn it on or off - it's not encoded in the video stream unlike VHS etc) . Most authoring tools will default to region 0 (ie no region) even if you don't tell them.

    wy685mm - what DVD'd can't you backup ? - it's probably your ripper.

  4. Can't backup T2- the ultimate edition. All the extended scenes are lumped in with the main movie files.

Also, can't do The Matrix. The scenes seem to skip backwards and play partly again when previewed in DVD2AVI.

I'm using the DVD2DVDR Guide for Dummies to backup my discs so I am only getting the main movie files if the complete disc/main movie files adds up to >4.3GB.

I have also tried Enemy at the gates but the beginning of the film does not preview in DVD2AVI.

Finally I tried copying both series of Fawlty Towers but the video quality was terrible with wavy lines everywhere.

I must say though that I have successfully copied around 20 movies using the above guide, but I'd like to be able to copy anything I want to.

  5. LOL, well I think my friend will be fine... It's some Brittany Spears DVD. Will the extra features and everything still be included? (Menus and such?)

  6. Alot of DVD players can be hacked to remove the Region code checking.

So if the only reason is to backup the DVD so it will be region code
free you should check out that option first.

If the DVD is less than 4.37GB you can back it up
    and keep all the menus.

    wy685mm,

This is caused by 'seemless branching' of the DVD. It is essentially another form of copy protection for the newbie (myself included..) - but all the information to copy it is already held on the disk - the IFO file. (otherwise your DVD player would not be able to play it properly either).

I haven't done a complex seemless branch rip yet - but I know that some utilities exist that let you string together the 'bit's' to get just the movie - Possibly IFOEdit but haven't tried it. I've done Minority Report - but this just uses a fake Vob which can easily be deleted and the IFO files recreated (again wth IfoEdit).

Can anyone assist me in naming the util that does this for you ?

    Cheers,

    TeeeRex
