I use a Pinnacle DC-10 capture card. It captures in MJPEG. I set up a network in my house and now I'm trying to open my MJPEG .avi files on a computer which doesn't have my capture card on it. So it yells at me since I don't have the codecs. I try to open in virtual dub and it kind of works.

I get this wierd thing where only half the lines show up. Looks like this:

Here's a close up look so you can see that every second line is just black:

Another wierd thing if I shuttle around in vdub it sometimes pics up a frame which will stay where the black lines where and I'll get this wierd double exposure like this:

So what's the deal? Is this a virtual dub problem or a missing codec problem?

I get that I don't have the MJPEG codec on this comp. So I tried doing a full install of the software that came with my DC-10. Didn't do a damned thing. I guess the codec's in hardware? Does that make sense?

I know there the MJPEG codec by PicVideo but there's just no way I'm paying 30$ just to get something I should already have. Especially since I don't even know if this is my problem. So... is there a way to get this codec off my other computer or something?

  2. I had a similar problem. VirtualDub does have inbuilt MJPEG support but it doesn't appear to be perfect. ( Might pay to try the newest release. ) The best option is to grab one of the other MJPEG codecs such as Picvideo and install that on the other machine. That should resolve the problem.

    Good Luck,
    Ian

The newest vdub didn't work. I downloaded the trial picvideo codec which worked but... well it did have that logo. At least I know there's a solution so I'll just keep looking. Thanks.
