  1. Ok so here is the full scoop. I'm trying to put together a DVD of home movies for the family christmas. I have take 4 hours of VHS / MiniDV video and brought it into my PC using a Cannon Zr40 Camcorder's firewire port. Once on my PC is authored the movie in Adobe Premiere 6.5. The only change I made during the encoding step was to reduce the bitrate from 6000 (medium setting) to 5000 max so the files would be a bit smaller. After the encode I moved the 3 clips into DVDit and arranged the clips together with a short intro a trailer, credits, etc. The first disk we burned played FINE on my Go.Video 4400 but not on my parents Samung M101, it also played choppy on a PS2. I re-encoded the first 2 sections because I had encoded them twice before DV -> MPG2 -> MPG2 again. Thinking this introduced errors I started over fresh with the DV (avi) files and rebuild the first 2 sections ( the only 2 the samsung would not play) Now my Go.Video will no play section 1, and plays sec. 2 and 3 choppy. The samsung will not play sec 1 at all and 2 and 3 are choppy. I burned the disks on Memorex DVD-R disks with a SONY burner. the 3 video files were 1.0 GB 1.3 GB and .7GB (I think) My question is what in the heck would cause this to happen? ANY suggestions are welcomed. O' 1 other thing the SONY plays the DVD 'ok' but my PC with a DVD-ROM it does not play the first sec of video. Again all the menus, credits, short trailers play fine in all systems.....

  2. If you have too high of a bitrate, it may affect some DVD players. My stand-alone DVD player and Xbox both freeze with 6000bps movies.

Now I have a question for you...
What version PS2 did you try it on? My Memorex DVD-Rs won't play on my (or my friend's) PS2 at all...And I also used a Sony burner. Thanks!

  3. I am not sure about the PS2 sorry, it's my friends not mine. As for the bitrate I encoded at 5000 Max with VBR. Since I hear you PS2 doesn't like the memorex disks, I think I'll run out and grab another DVD-R brand and give it a shot.

  4. Definitly get a different brand of media. I've had nothing but nightmares with memorex media. They constantly skip, especially towards the end of the disk. Their nothing but trouble for me. I recently switched to verbatim and although I have only done 5 so far, they have been perfect.
