    The Malata N996 or the Malata DVD 520 have x-y scaling capabilities and will play convert any PAL disk to NTSC with the correct aspect ratio. The Malata forum is here: http://www.nerd-out.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=17

    My RCA 5240P plays all my PAL VCDs, SVCDs and DVDs to my NTSC TV with the correct aspect ratio.

    My Philips DVD953 plays pretty much anything I throw at it, and converts PAL to NTSC correctly.

    Also, there's a hack here on the site to make it region free. Haven't tried it, but will in the future, after I import some DVDs.
