  1. Okay, I'm taking some DV videos that I have and putting them on DVD for my friend who lives in Spain. Obviously they are in NTSC format but I need to convert them to PAL. I already sent him one in NTSC format and he can watch it but it's in black and white. He says there's no way to set his TV to accept an NTSC signal. So now I have to go about converting to PAL. What should all my settings be in TMPGENC? How do I set it to preserve the aspect ratio? Do I need to set it to de-interlace since it's DV? I think I have a basic grasp of all of this but I'm still learning and some of the settings are confusing.

    Thanks so much!

I have the same prob myself....
I have some NTSC VHS tapes and I want to convert them to PAL
I search the forum and I found many interesting suggestions.
I'll test them tonight (the VHS tapes just arrived)

    Just for the story:
Some users suggest to grabb with Virtualdub the NTSC tape as PAL and encode the avi to mpeg. Anorthodox way, which I need to test myself to believe it!
The most advance technique, is grabb the VHS as NTSC, then encode it to a very high bitrate mpeg 2 and then re-encode it to less high mpeg 2 PAL following this guide: http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/userguides/78178.php

There are also some framerate techniques, including inverse telecine the source to NTSC 23.97 and then slighty boost it to 25fps to make it PAL.

I shall learn many things for this in the next 3 weeks!
