The problem I have may be specific to the Philips DVD724AT or maybe others have found this with other DVD players as well.

I thought the problem might be encoding so I started the following post. Now I am beginning to think the problem is the DVD player so I posted here. To try to avoid double answeres I amd crossreferencing these two posts.

The philips unit when I have the sound set for SPDIF RAW(digital stream) all DVD's and audio CD's autodetect and play perfectly as DD5.1 or PCM as the case may be no problems. When I run any Audio CD that I have made (even from DD5.1 sountracks) the Philips works fine and my stereo auto detects the sound track as PCM and plays fine. Problem:[b] If i put in any VCD, SVCD or CVD with any sound encoding selection in TMPGEnc (stereo/Joint Stereo/ Dual Channel and have the SPDIF on the Philips set to RAW the Philips does not pass any sound to my stereo. To get sound I have to set it to PCM and then it works.

I hooked up my original Toshiba SD1200 (replaceing this one with the Philips) I have the Audio set to BITSTREAM and everything works correctly including with the VCD. I do not have to set this unit to PCM. Has anyone seen this problem with any other units or if you have the philips724AT does your do the same thing.
