  1. I used DVD2SVCD to copy Beauty and the Beast DVD BUT when it was done it made the 1st CUE file 830Mbits so when i tried to burn it using NERO i got a message saying the DISC was too small. Do i need to change the setting in " BITRATE " to 740 instead of 800 ? Or should i manually enter a slightly smaller number like 780?? Or is this a NERO problem...?? Thanks for all replies....

Are you using 80 minute blanks? If the actual byte count (not what Exporer reports) of an MPG files is roughly 830mbs it will fit on an 80 min. CD. For BIN/CUE's, I think the number is actually slightly higher. You might also want to check to see if you have Nero configured to allow overburning.

  3. Are you burning the Bin file to disk in data form or are you Burning a CD Image ?

Im using the " BURN IMAGE " function.

YES, im using 80 Min blanks. I believe the size in EXPLORER was 832Mb. Next time i'll write down the EXACT size. I DO have overburning checked. BTW this has happened MORE then once. So should i change the size under BITRATE to <800 like 780 OR use the default of 740.

Where are you seeing "BITRATE"? All you should have to do is select the CUE file and tell it to burn. Uh...you're not using Nero Express are you?

Hmm...I'm not sure what that setting is for (I know what a "bitrate" setting is, but it usually doesn't refer to the size of your disc image). If DVD2SVCD is using this setting to set the disc image size, then yes, lower it a bit.

  8. ok give this a shot

open DVD2SVCD and in the CD Image tabe click on, Dont Make image.

in the bitrate tab make sure the CD Size is 800 if you are using 80 min cd's. Also make sure that the total amount of time is correct, if the movie goes for 1 hour and 30 mins thats 90 min total, so in the bitrate tab, find the range say '75 and 110' ,a 90 min movie falls into this range, and then make sure that is the one you set for 800.

then using nero, burn a SVCD.

Are you making chapters? is that why you use the CD Image option?

YES I'm making chapter in it so i can skip ahead to different parts of the movie if i want. Under the " Bitrate " tab here's what is set:
    Between 0 and 50 - use 1 CD size 740
    Between 50 and 76 - use 1 CD size 800
    Between 75 and 100 - use 2 CD size 740
    Between 100 and 125 - use 2 CD size 800

Is this right.? Here's a copy of the log file that made the SECOND disk too big..... THANKS FOR ALL the replies.

  10. It seems you have encoded a couple of movies in that log file. I am not 100% sure why its doing it. To be honest, one thing I have found with subtitles though is that it allows for the subtitles to take up space on the disk, subs can take up to around 10 megs, its possible something is happening there?, but I am guessing on that one.

I also noticed your using 1.0.9 try updating to the latest version, www.dvd2svcd.org might help.

    ciao

    ciao
I just got done ripping GOLDMEMBER and changed the CD SIZE under BITRATE to 780 FOR ALL of them. This time what it did was create 3 disc's but the weird part is it made 2 of them 805Mb and the 3rd one only 7Kb..?? I chose
    Video Encoding Mode: Multipass VBR
    Min. bitrate: 300
    Max. bitrate: 2530
    Avg. Bitrate: 2113

Since the Avg. Bitrate: 2113 WHY didn't it make 2 disc's at a SLIGHTLY better BITRATE instead of making 2 @ 2113 and a 3rd disc that was 8Kb that was i dont have to change the 3rd disc just to watch 5 sec of video??

Here's the LOG file. Any help is appreciated.....

  13. the problem you describe i know and have experienced. making files that are pointless like 7 kb i even had one at 4kb. I thought it was cause i was trying to force too much video (time) into too little space (megabytes).

I think the encoding programs dont stick to their bitrates 100% and sometimes this can cause the end file to be larger than desired creating the pointless small files. As bbMpeg will always cut based on file size.

Why do all your conversions encode the audio twice after a crash recovery? You trying to use batch encoding?

Side Note: Most DVD's wind up as 3 SVCD's. Longer movies like Lord of the Rings are 4. I have always had great luck with bitrates by reducing my calculations 10%. That is whatever "I think" I need for XviD or SvcD, I reduce 10 % and I'm never too big. Min/Max/Average is not 100% carved in stone. Particullary the average. It can try and get real close, but only a 2-pass encode will hit it spot on.

And about 8 KB 3rd disks. To be brutally honest, do you need to see the last 2 seconds of the credits. All of the old DivX types know what credits are for: To trim off to hit disk size!

I'm wondering if your actually running out of space in the middle of the job. You had 300+ MB when finished. Temp files during the processing?

  15. true that and i do agree, but when making a svcd for watching at home that dont need downloading, i prefer the whole thing. DivX is mainly used for net distribution so credits and other similar things are extra download, so removing them is understandable

The only reason it should of encoded the AUDIO twice is because I did 2 CRASH RECOVERYS. BTW I finished UNFAITHFUL today and used 800 for ALL CD sizes and THIS TIME it made the 1st CD TOO BIG so i had to OVERBURN it. This program DEFINATELY has problems calculating the disc size properly.

    CDSize: 800.00
    Cut point 792.00

To me "Cut point 792.00" means DON'T MAKE the file size BIGGER then 792 mB...

  17. Here's my most RECENT rip......

I redid GOLDMEMBER AGAIN and it did the SAME THING AGAIN.. It made a 3rd CD 8Kb. The Avg. Bitrate: 1965 could of been increased to a Max. Avg. of 2230 instead of creating the 3rd disk. I've updated to DVD2SVCD 1.1.0 BUILD 1C. Under Executing

Cinema Craft Encoder it says a few things Im unclear about.
#1 - Number of CDs: 2 Yet it made 3
#2 - Avg. Bitrate: 1965 Yet the Max. Avg. is set for 2230

  18. have you tried using different rippers?

Smart Ripper, DVD Decrytor, or try using V-Strip from within dvd2svcd?

then just load the ifo and convert. might work?

    good luck...

I "use internal routines" in DVD2SVCD itself to RIP the DVD. I've used SmartRipper in the past but not recently just because I like being able to click on a few tabs, Hit Run and come back 3hrs later to BURN my CD's.

  20. Well in a last dash attampt, with the latest dvd2svcd theres a little box you can check under the Conversion Tab called Frame Selection. Basically its the equivilant to Source Range in TMPGEnc. One thing I noticed is that it disables automatic cutting by bbMpeg. So you just set up how many different parts you want and let it encode as per usual.

Outside of that I honestly dont know what causes it to happen, I find when it does happen though if I take the seperate video and audio streams and put them together nero always says theres an invalid stream, with no details and it always seem to be larger than it should be.

One day when I get off My lazy ass and learn to code I might understand lol, good luck dude

    see ya...

  21. I use Smart ripper, DVD2AVI, TMPGE, Chapter Xtractor, VCD Easy, like listed in the newbie section and have good results. Also I am using 99min CD's this enables you to get a full VCD on one disc. My stand alone DVD player plays them also.
    Hope this helps.
