  3. Probably the Media.

On my Toshiba3755 I have used 4 different DVD+R discs

Memorex and Maxell works without any skippping.

Philips and Fuji media some skipping.

P.S try without putting on any sticky Labels, as it can make
the disc wobble if it is slighlty off-center.

I had the same problem along with many other people, the solution is to use a better grade of disk. I use TDK, once I started using them I've had no more skipping problems. Before that I had tried several brands of dvd-rs, TDK is the only one I found so far that was consistant in quality. That is also the reason why so many people are using buying them.

I'm sure you heard the old saying, "You get what you pay for", well in this situation it's true.

  7. I think I could be the player. Do you have other discs that work fine? My Apex used to play all dvd-rs fine but it started freezing and skipping all of them recently. I think the laser was going out of alignment.

I can only speak from my own experience. The problem that is decribed is usually related to dvd media. I use to think it was my player and even went as far as buying another player just to find that the media was the problem from the beginning.

Everytime I try to find a less expensive disk, I end up with the same problem. I learned by experimenting and asking people from several different forums, and they all say the same thing.

    Goodluck,

  9. It is a combination MEDIA and DVD player.

Some disc that skips in my $200 Toshiba player
plays OK in my $50 bedroom player.

It's not really that the media is crappy, it is just not compatible
    with that specific dvd player.

But try a few good quility brands before you buy a 100pack.

Remember, DVD players that are older than a few months
never had DVD+R and DVD-R in mind when they where built.

  11. Well, here's an update on what I've learned so far. Please remember that I just started doing all of this about a week ago. For the person who posted earlier saying that it's a mix of media and DVD players, I have to agree with you. I took the exact same DVD that skiped in my player and put it in another DVD player and it worked just fine. It was also a player that was purchased only a few months ago. So, I'm guessing that new technology in the players will make a difference also. The media I used was Verbatim. So far, I've never had a problem with that brand before. So, I guess we're all learning here.

bulkpaq purple = not very good
superior at 2x = not very good
superior at 1x = just about but still a bit iffy

I agree a combination of both media and dvd players are the problem. I'm hoping that the newer dvd player manufacturers take this into account with their newer players.

Remeber still that some media are created with defects that also cause problems while playing, the hard thing is figuring out which one is at fault.

  15. When skipping occurs, it is definitely hard to figure out the cause. I know you have to experiment with different media as many have said, but sometimes, even with excellent media, you can have a problem. I mainly use TDK and Verbatim disks, and when I'm done burning, I go through each chapter on my standalone and check a minute or so of each chapter. I've never had one single problem with the Verbatim disks, until a couple of days ago when I ripped Ferris Buellers day off. I went to play it in my standalone and noticed that every chapter was fine, except the very last chapter which just froze. When I tried it in my DVD ROM thinking it would probably work, it froze in the same exact place. I wasn't sure if it was my SONY DRU500A or maybe NERO, or maybe a bad disk. So I gambled and tried it with another Verbatim disk of the same bundle, and it worked perfectly. I am still not 100% sure what caused that to happen, but I think it was possibly a bad disk. Does anyone know how often or seldom you can get a bad disk in a bunch? If anyone thinks this could of been NERO or the Burner, please let me know. Thanks

  16. I've been using those same discs (purple gen3 bulkpaq) and found the exact same thing. Playing back in my standalone - perfect until last 10/15 minutes at which point it skips 3 or 4 times every minute, and there seems to be a pattern to the skipping :\
Weird thing is though, that I used to use these same discs in my Pioneer 103 and never had this problem, now with my 105 still writing the same disc at the same speed it suddenly happens.
I've just bought some new discs to try anyway, Vivastar silvertops 2x although my 105 will only write them at 1x I've done 2 so far and not had the skipping so fingers crossed it's the bulqpaq purple media to blame.
