I've been working on this for the past two days, and I just can't seem to get it right, so I am going to start completely over.
I have a widescreen avi file that I want to burn to VCD using Nero. The avi is 700mb, so I need to cut it in half. This is where the problems start. I take my avi into virtualdub to cut it in half, and it gives me a VBR error. So I extract the audio and take my audio and video to TMPG and combine them, which gives me a mpg file. This is fine, but I still need to cut my file in half. I do so in TMPG, but then when I try to burn either half to vcd using nero, nero gives me an error about the file being invalid, something about video streaming. BUT, when I load the original mpg that is not cut in half, nero acts fine, but I can't burn it because its too large.
Is there anyway to cut the original avi in half before I combine the audio and video in TMPG? Or this would be better yet, is there anyway I can change the audio so it is not VBR, but keep the file in avi format so I can cut it in VirtualDub without problems?
Also, I want to keep the widescreen aspect, but as of yet I haven't been able to. Can anybody tell me what to do? Please! I am going absolutely crazy! I have even tried a bunch of the guides on this website, but they all seem to lead me to this point, of having to start over.
Thanks SO much.

using TMPG wizard to begin. After selecting the AVI file a box should pop up with about 4-5 options. Check the top box "Source". That'll take you to a cutting board for the AVI file. So easy - even I can do it...

How do you know before you even encoded it to mpegOriginally Posted by mjvgiese

How long in minutes is this AVI film clip?
you can fit 70-90 minutes on a VCD-CDR. -
to fix the vbr audio open file in vdub then check audio/ full processing mode, the audio/conversion/16bit,44100, hi quality/stereo then go to video/ direct stream copy, then file/save as avi. the new avi will now have fixed audio. 700 mb shoiuld fit easily on one cd in nero when you check vcd to burn , uncheck standard compliant vcd and it will fit

Thank you so much! Everything is working, EXCEPT, after I cut the avi in half, and encode to mpg, there is no sound. What would cause this?? This is quite odd...if I cut the file in half after I encode, the sound is fine, but cutting it in half before encoding causes there to be no sound.
Does anybody have any idea what is going on? Do I need to download a codec, and would it fix this no sound problem? And which one should I download? (I think I'd like to stay away from Nimo, I've read some bad stuff about it......)
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
