I'm trying to convert an avi divx movie to mpg with tmpgenc, but a "Stream Writing Error" message comes up at the same place (a few seconds from the start) in the movie every time. This has only happened with this specific movie and at that specific time. Is there any way I could cut the avi to get rid of the "bad" section that causes tmpgenc to crash? Should I try seperating the audio and video?

There are a few AVI's with bad frames, and TMPGEnc will give that error. There maybe others further along the movie, so even if you cut out that part at the beginning TMPGEnc might give the same problem further along the movie.
I use "vdub-mp3-freeze.exe" it scans the movie and creates a list of bad frames. You can then use Vdub to remove those bad frames (At the nearest keyframe)
