  1. I'm a bit confused these days. What is the best pioneer player I could buy [I really want to play VCD/SVCD without any problems] ?

Or are there other brands that are better which I can buy in *Europe* ?

  2. I can't tell you what is the best player in the world, as i've not had the pleasure of trying every single one of them, but I can tell you, that my old and trusty Pioneer 525 has played anything and everything I made so far, which will include: VCD/SVCD and non-standards such as my own SeVCD and SxVCD, as well as XVCD and XSVCD, on any media type so far.

I can't tell you any newer or older model will behave the same, but for my experience and tests i've done in several stores I can tell you that Apex and Pioneer (for both, not all models!) have performed great reading just about anything, and I hope this information helps you out.

The DV535 and DV343 are the same model for different regions.

I just bought a DV343 (I already have an Apex 600). The 343 plays my SVCD fine, but I hate how there is no timing information. I have created the SVCDs with TSCV and VCDImager 0.7.9. It is a 45 minute video with chapters at every 5 minutes and I have made it where the keypad can select chapters, not just |<< and >>|. On the Apex there is a display of time elapsed and time remaining, but on the 343 it just plays and allows chapter selection with keypad numbers and |<< >>|. Also many times if I am reverse scanning on the Pioneer, it will stop scanning when it reaches a chapter boundary. Has anyone else seen this?

  6. I was told that 535 has RGB-out, but 343 doesn't.
    Can that be tru?

  7. hmm I'm using dvd2svcd build 9 and that has vcdimager 0.6 and it will display the time (Pioneer 434 same as 343 just has progressive scan..can hook up to HDTV). Now 'other' svcds I get from who knows where do not display the time. When inserting the svcd just hit on your remote '1' then it will display the time.

I tried TSVC 0.72 rel 2 with vcdimager 0.7.10pre5 and your right. When reverse scanning it stops at chapter points. And the chapters work great but now it displays 'PBC Play' rather than the time. If you press '1' instead of play it will show the time but then the next and prev and numerals on the keypad don't work with the chapters. Sucks I want my time display back. Reverse scanning I can live with stopping at chapter points.

GaryX, the 343 has component output on it.

mrbass, when you made the SVCD image with 0.7.10pre5, did you enable chapter selection with keypad? I am doing this. When I press 1 or play it seems to do the same thing (does not show time). I guess when you are pressing 1 it is playing with PBC off and shows the time. I would really like time to show too. The reason I bought the 343 is so that I could play SVCDs and not have to deal with the inconsistent lip sync of the Apex and now the timing info is gone. I am going to try demuxing in tempenc then remuxing in bbmpeg before making the image to see if that helps.
