  1. #1 Ive always wondered why I've only seen 700mb/80 min cd-r's (and some 650mb cd-rw's), but when I use mpeg-splitting programs they often have a choice to split the file to 800mb cd's. Now...if they have 800mb cd's, how come Ive never seen one sold anywhere? And wouldn't they be the standard cd-r instead of 700mb, since they hold more space? Im confused.....

    P.S. Where can I get 800mb cd-r's?

    #2 Do they have CD-RW's that hold more than 700mb?

    Thanks...

  2. 700 MB cdr's will hold almost 800MB of mode 2 data. VCD's are burnt as mode 2 so you can fit 80 minutes or 800MB of video when burnt as VCD.

    You can buy CDR's which will hold even more data than this, these can hold up to 99 minutes (990 MB) of VCD video (burner dependant)

  3. But if I enable overburn in nero for 700mb discs.....will it work? Nero says that it will "possibly damage" my cd writer (lol)

    Nero and other packages give this warning, but the only overburn problems I've ever heard of were people burning coasters. Never heard of any damage to a drive.

    If you mean "will it work to try to overburn 800MB of data to a 700MB disc", the answer is no. Data is burned differently (little things like error correction take up space) so you get 700MB of space. If you want to burn 800MB of (S)VCD you don't need to enable overburn because you're not overburning anything.

    This is how it goes:

    650MB=74 minutes
    700MB=80 minutes
    800MB=90 minutes
    870MB (I think)=99 minutes

    Even though it says 650,700,800, and 870 MegaBytes on the list, you are able to burn up to 740 (74:00), 800 (80:00), 900 (90:00), and up to 990 MegaBytes (99:00) without truly overburning because the disks are burned in Mode2 instead of Mode 1 (703MB-CDROM). I hope I'm right.

    Hope That Helps!! :P
