Master / Slave

depends -- if two devices are on same chanel and both are fairly recent vintage and support cable select - > go that route
fail safe -> set one device to master (end of cable) and other to slave ...
one device on cable set to master or (on some drives) master with no slave jumper setting .. -
Its a new Dell.... and I just got the new sony Dru500a
So will I go with cable select.... My existing Harddrive and DVD reader are set to cable select -
As long as the drives support it and you have the right cable there is no difference other than jumper settings, and that master/slave is now determined by cable position. If you must put two drives of non-identical performance on one cable, the faster one should be Master.
