    I have a 701mb divx file... how can i trim the last 12 seconds?

    Open the file in virtualdub select the section you dont want on the timeline and press the delete key. Set video to direct stream copy, and save as a new AVI file.

    No it will do it much quicker than real time, the speed depends on your PC. Mine would do it in a couple of minutes.
