Im in the market for a portable DVD player
With or without a screen
It needs s-video output
It needs optical output
It needs to be pretty feature rich:
*play svcd and vcd on cd-rw and cd-r and xvcd/sxvcd wouldnt hurt either
Im looking for a portable replacement to my crappy Kenwood DVD player that barely plays anything (plays VCD once in a blue moon but it has to be a super high quality cd-rw slowly burned)
Your help in my portable DVD player search is appreciated
edit: shouldve also mentioned that im looking for the lowest price possible while still satisfying the above conditions (and doesnt spontaneously burn up in flames or anything like that)

I got koss dvp2161 and it has s-video, optical output and standard RCA output. It play every thing. VCD, SVCD, DVD-+R/RW but It doesn't have DTS output. I'm using this player with Sony PSONE 5 inch monitor for long trip. My daughter was happy with it.

well, I have a laptop for work that has a dvd player but it is so much bigger. I actually splurged on this for several long plane trips I was/am taking with my less than 1 year old son this year and so far it's been worth the expense! Nothing like Rolie Polie Olie or baby mozart to keep him occupied for several hours. -
I have the RCA 5400P (a Shinco clone). It plays all the formats you listed very well. It even sometimes detects the difference between properly authored SVCD (480x480/576) and CVD (352x480/576). It plays pressed DVDs flawlessly, and only sometimes pauses briefly during the layer switch. It runs really hot after about 100 minutes, and this excessive heat caused the little rubber feet on the bottom to move around. I havent met a portable yet that didnt run hot, so you'll have to accept that little drawback. It plays Apple DVD-R flawlessly but won't play any DVD-RW I've tested (if there are others, I don't know about them). It supports MP3 playback but chops off the first two seconds of each song, so don't rely on it for that functionality.
