  1. I am new to Digital Video. I have had problems at times with capturing, editing and burning either VCD or DVD.

I just made one of each with some video clips, but the video quality is terrible when viewed on my TV. The video plays fine but shows significant rectangular sections. Like pieces to a puzzle. Some scenes are better or worse than others.

The original video as viewed from the camcorder on the TV is great.

What am I doing wrong. or what should I expect?

    Thanks,
    MjBart

This is probably due to the low bitrate of a VCD. Try encoding using VBR and see if that helps. Sometimes, Constant Bitrate will puzzle up your video (macroblockage) for a few seconds if the bitrate is too low for that scene.

    Hope That Helps!!! :P

  3. If you are already using standrad VCD format, then you have to go to the SVCD, which has high bit rate, twice the resoltuion ( but still restricted by your camcorder ) and only 40 minutes per CD.

Most home video, after editing can be compiled into 30 minutes. ( Unless there is a lot of flower girls in the wedding ).
