  1. I have a Sony PC recently purchased with huge amounts of ram and HD space to edit analog video on.

My current video card is a G-force2 Ti AGP 4x. It's a firewire card and works great for everything else.

I see many converters...including several from Dazzle.

I borrowed a Sony DVMC-DA2 to bring analog video in- Worked great. Output didn't, but didn't have time to troubleshoot and can't borrow again.

I only want to bring analog tape in...edit it in premiere and export to tape.
Given these facts, I see the following to choose from. They all say they can import/export analog video. I know there all kinds of factors. Given the simplist of circumstances..i.e. inport-edit-export on VHS. Which should I choose and why:

    Dazzle DVC 100 - $149
    Dazzle DVC 150 (2.0 USB) $165
Dazzle Video Creator II - $199
    Dazzle DVC2200 (Hollywood Bridge) $220
    ADS USB $155

    Please help.

If you liked the Sony analog to DV box, you might want to look at tye Canopus ADVC-100 or the Datavideo DAC-100. Both are around (or under) $250.

Forgot about the why... Should be an easy way for both import and export. As well as edit. Editing MPEG is limited to editing only on I-frames (like a key frame). So depending on the structure you choose for your mpeg, you might only be able to edit every half second or so. With DV every frame can be edited.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

Your video card has firewire capability? Anyway, I agree with The village idiot about the Canopus ADVC-100 box. I own one and it is the best capture device I've ever owned. It has audio in, composite in and s-video in. It also has s-video, composite and audio out as well. It does the analog to digital (DV)conversion so there's low cpu usage.

Like I said, I use one and its great.

  4. I totally agree with The village idiot. Canopus ADVC-100 is the deal. STAY AWAY FROM DAZZLE! I bought a DVC (usb version) about 2yrs ago, and it was HORRIBLE! I will never buy another one of their products. You think MS software is buggy? Right, MS is perfect compared to Dazzle. They even want you to pay for updates to their sorry software. Didn't mean to get off the subject, but I believe in letting others know your experience with products.

I currently use my Canon ZR-10 camcorder as my capture device, which works fine. I have friends w/ the Canopus, and I will get one when/if my camcorder dies.
