  1. Hi,
I am using the new LSX-mpeg 2.01 plugin for adobe and have found something interesting that I need some help with.

    1. If I encode using the variable bit rate I end up with a large file size.
    I.E. 41 minutes at 5000 max 2000 min I get a file about 1.3gigs

If I encode using a constant bit rate of 3000 I get a file about 850 megs

Is this right or am I not using the VBR right

    2. Does anyone know if you can use this plugin with VirtualDub? and if so how.

Just fyi I have found that quality of this new codec (GoMotion) is sweet. The Video quality of the 3000 CBR is excellent and with it producing only 850 meg files with audio, I can fit 5 of them on a DVD+RW with out a problem.

    Thanks

Sounds like the software is not calculating VBR correctly. If it gives you the option of setting the average bitrate, where do you have it set. By the numbers you have given, it looks like LSX is setting the AVERAGE bit rate to 5000, instead of the 3000 you were expecting. The may have mis-labeled the softwares user interface, and it really should be min. rate and average rate.

This is all a guess since I don't use either of the products you do.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  3. Ok, When I am changing it to VBR. It has the following settings:

Maxium bit, Then it has below it several choice's I picked Optimized quant scale with a Avg - Max and Min.

I was setting these to a Maxium bit rate of 5500 and an average of 5000 and 2000. Even if I lower these setting I still get a somewhat large file size. When I went to Max of 2500 with an avg of 2000 and 500, I still had a files size of over 1gig.

When I went to Constant, I got much smaller file size and that it was almost predictable.

    Thanks for yo help..

This is what I see when using the plugin. The simple avg method allows you to accurately calculate size because we all know the the harsh truth SIZE MATTERS. I use 4400 and 224k audio to put +- 2 hrs on a dvd+-r. This plugin can be used with Xmpeg/Flask (requires some suffix renaming) to quickly reencode mpeg video or the Suite has a standalone avi to mpeg encoder.
