  1. Hello all,

I'm new to capturing. As you can see by my system specs I'm using a Geforce 4 Ti4200 128mb ram with VIVO (Golden Sample by Gainward). I've experimented with Virtualdub, VirtualVCR (with the Huffyuv codec), Sonic's MyDVD, and Wincoder.

Wincoder has produced the best results capturing direct to MPEG2. MyDVD to AVI is a close second, but the AVI file size is HUGE. Virtual dub doesn't work well with WDM drivers, nor has Virtual VCR.

I'm encountering an issue with Wincoder splitting a recording above 3.96 gb into two files. I've tried creating a custom format and changing it's split file setting to above 10 gb and setting it to 0, which defaults it to 10mb.

I know Windows 98SE has a 4gb file size limit, however I'm using Win 2k, all my drives are formatted NTFS, so this shouldn't be an issue. Anyone have an idea of what might be causing this?

Isn't that made by intervideo? If yes.. Then, I'm sorry to say it's probably the software itself. I've got the same exact problem with Intervideo WinDVR software.. Win2K, NTFS on all drives. Captures to MPG but every file no matter what above 4GB splits into 2..

You might try contacting their tech support but.. I have, and they never replied back so..

  3. Thanks for the quick response. I did call Gainward's tech support yesterday but the rep barely spoke English and didn't seem to understand my question, finally at the end he said it might be the capture driver, but I know that's not the issue as I'm able to record AVI files much bigger in size.

Intervideo claims they don't provide OEM support, which is how I received their product.

I may have to just merge the two files and live with it.

  4. I must agree wincoder 1.8 is very good. Try windvr 2.0 - the quality is slightly better than wincoder.

    Hi,
I'm sorry that I can't help with your question as I have not gotten as far in my capturing, but I do have a couple of questions as I also use Wincoder. What is your specific video card model number and AGP capability? I think I may have the same one. Mine is also a Gainward Ti4200 128mb ram with VIVO. It is the XP 650 AGP 4x. Also, what drivers are you using for the card and have you had to flash the card's bios? I'm using the 1.1.7.... WDM version and the 4.0.7.2 Detonator drivers. I have never flashed my card's bios. My main question is: Do you ever see a thin green line on your captures? I've been experimenting with capturing laserdiscs and always see a thin green line running along the very top of the capture. Since the LD I'm capturing is in widescreen, it only affects the very top of the top widescreen bar.

I'm just curious if you have seen the same thing and may have found a solution. The bar has appeared weather I use the S-Video or Composite connectors and with all of the drivers I have tried.

Let me know if you have better luck with WinDVR 2. I may try that as well.

    Thanks.

Mythos - I have the exact same card you do, is yours also a Golden Sample?. I'm not sure of the driver version at present (at work and this is on my home machine) - I can tell you I have an earlier WDM capture driver 1.08 to resolve an issue with the white box on recorded playback

Your problem might be related to macrovision - that's just a guess. I get a small (very small) reddish blue line at the bottom of my captures but it's not very noticeable.

I thought I read somewhere else that WinDVR has the same problem with split files, but thanks for the suggestion. I might have to live with two files and just merge them.

  7. Yes. Mine is also a Golden Sample. Thanks for the information. I don't think I have a Macrovision problem since I'm capturing from Laserdisc (no Macrovision). I believe that is what was causing some to get the large white box over their captures. I could be wrong though. Thanks.
