  2. well...did you encode at standard VCD 2.0 specs??? (352x240 & cbr 1150 bitrate)

normally, vcd quality isn't that good..because of the really low bitrate and resolution....however, if you were to change the resolution, bitrate, and/or the encoding method (i.e. cbr vs. vbr), you could get higher quality, but turn it into non-standard xVCD, which obviously will have less dvd player compatibility than standard VCD 2.0

so, there's not much you can do...but,

    1) make sure you force film in dvd2avi and encode in tmpgenc as 23.976 fps + 3:2 pulldown

    2) make sure you set motion search accuracy to high quality (slow)..do NOT set it any lower than this

  3. It just the limitations of the VCD format.. it can't handle lots of fast moving stuff on screen without breaking up into blocks.

Try setting Soften Block Noise to 100 in TMPGEnc. It'll make the picture softer but it'll minimize the block noise (well as much as is possible)

I did Ice Age with this setting & it looked watchable even on a 40" rear projection screen...

  4. Depends... I have yet to see a VCD that is really worth watching... Seen lots of better looking VHS tapes... VCDs are blocky, have you thought about (X)SVCD, CVD...?
