  1. Hello Everyone:

I've been downloading movies off of one of the popular sites and I get the avi files. I notice that the frame rate is usually around 14. something and when it comes to picking the format such as ntsc or one of the others for encoding those frame rates are 23 or 25. So whenever I encode an avi file to mpeg 1 or 2 and the frame rate is around 14 or 15 do I need to convert it to 23 or 25 for encoding??? If so..why?..

    Thanks,

    Comet

  2. If you want to make a VCD or a SVCD, then you will need to convert it to MPEG of particular specifications. Among those are specific framerates:

  3. Hey:

Thanks for the reply Michael. I will read those links thoroughly.

  4. If the framerate is nearly 15fps, the original source was probrably NTSC (29.97 fps) and half the frames have been discarded to minimise the file size. Encoding to NTSC will probrably yield the best results, although dont expect too much with only 15fps.

  5. Hey:

Thanks Craig..that was more of the reply that i was looking for..most of the avi files that i've downloaded from kazaa as CD1 and CD2 are like that. Any suggestions on where I could get better ones?

  6. This is sailing a bit close to the wind as far as the Warez situation is concerned. Providing you have legal fair use rights to the movie you are downloading, then good quality rips can be found on Kaaza

  7. Hi Craig:

Someone else warned me that this wasn't a topic of discussion on this forum so I will respect that.

    Thanks,
