sopranos avi -> SVCD

I've been trying to create a SVCD of the Sopranos but have encountered some trouble. First I can't get tmTMPGenc to read the avi file even though i have all my enviromental settings correct. Second, when trying to burn encode the movie using the svcd plugin for nero the video becomes inverted and upside down.
Can someone help me? Thanks
