i saw a checkbox on 5.5.10 that said "required for xbox TM". does that mean i can click the checkbox and the dvd will play in my xbox?
-
Didn't quite work - Got the latest version of Nero - tried the Video DVD, DVD-Rom(UDF) and DVD-Rom (UDF/ISO) - all same result.
Tried RecordNow MAX - failed on the verify every time about 75%.
Tried Prassi - wouldn't do anything constructive!
Basically what I'm doing is trying to convert DivX across - use TMPGEnc to convert divx files to MPEG-2, then Spruce-Up to chapter and write the VOBs and/or disk image (incidentally, NOTHING I have would load the disc image!!!), burnt the vobs etc, as with other people - fine in the PC, fine in the PS2 - forget the Lecson standalone!
If I use DVDXCopy to span a film to two DVDs, it works fine - but who wants to swap DVDs these days? -
This interests me greatly because I sell DVD-R disks to divers from all over the World with all sorts of players.
I author with DVDit! (for want of something better that will allow .m2v/.WAV as a first play and not force me to have a menu) and I used to burn with DVDit! too. I used to get a few back and I mostly attributed this to bad media such as Princo. Never got any Ritek gen3 back. Since I started authoring to hard disk and then burning with Nero 5.5.10.0 using "DVD video" I have been getting more back for non-playing, including Ritek gen3 disks. Everything I've ever burnt has played on my super-compatible Pioneer DV-233 standalone so that doesn't help sort the bad from the good.
Having read this thread I took a look at the "medium info" reported by a commercially produced DVD. Sure enough, as reported earlier:
UDF/ISO9660 (mode 1) (sadly nothing about which UDF standard)
I downloaded the latest Nero 5.5.10.7b and had a go at burning a Ritek gen4 V2 (the whole World is out of gen3) with the following settings:
- DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO)
- Check ISO level 1
- Check ISO9660
- Uncheck Joliet
- Uncheck anything in "relax ISO restrictions"
- UDF 1.02
- Check "force DVD-video compatibility mode (required for XBOX)"
I verified the media info in Nero and promisingly it reported exactly the same as the commercial DVD.
HOWEVER, now even the Pioneer standalone won't play the disk, although it will play OK on the computer.
I then did a check on the media info for a disk burnt by DVDit!, which appear to be more compatible in practice, and came up with just:
Data (mode 1)
Quite how the same result would be achieved by a burn in Nero, I'm not sure.
God knows where I go from here. Perhaps risk another coaster by trying just UDF instead of UDF/ISO.
Tried RecordMAX NOW and my Nero did a go-slow, which I can't afford as I use it for other stuff. Anyone know where I can download Prassi PrimoDVD 2.0? -
Have you tried plain DVD-Video format with the latest Nero (5.5.10.7b)? I tried this on DVD-RW and no problems, but I never had problems burning DVD-Video with Nero (they all play fine on my Kiss DVD, except the only DVD that I labeled -this won't happen again-).
-
i have dru-500ax
burned dvd+rw using nero 5.5.9.14 with udf 1.02. did not work on my panasonic rp-82
then tried dvd video mode instead of dvd-rom udf, and it worked!!
However, i am afraid of making discs that would not be compatible with other older players.
So tried same with udf/iso... does not work, but i had joliet unchecked. should i have left it checked?
finally tried recordnow dx and it works!!!
So what should i use on a regular basis, recordnow or nero dvd video mode? -
I have upgraded to the latest version of Nero (5.5.10.7b) and I'm using DVD video with perfect results. Burned discs play on the Kiss DVD/DivX and the LG 3200E. I never check Joliet, since DVD player's don't use it anyway.

I'm getting now the best results this way:
Author with ifoedit and burn with imgtool 1.0.That even works for DVD+RW, which I could get working only with RecordNow Max for 50% of all tries. AFAIK imgtool uses the same image dll as NERO, I just can't understand, why DVDs burned with NERO (every usable combination tried), can't burn anything, which can't play in my standalone.
I was even able to rescue a movie from a coas
ter: copied the VIDEO_TS/AUDIO.TS to HD, used ifoedit to rearrange the VOBs and burned with ImgTool. -
I'm a bit of a newbie to all this, but I've found that discs burned in UDF1.02 format will NOT play in my Pioneer Elite DV-09 standalone. Using nero's 'DVD Video' template (UDF1.05) works brilliantly. Both UDF play in my cheaper Pioneer DV-454 standalone.

Headstates guide works with my Pioneer DV 250 but not with my Apex 3201, just the opposite of Tomclary's experience for some reason! Maybe because I have the latest version of Nero, or maybe my Pioneer DVD Burner A05 ?? I guess there might be a dozen variables. I'm burning another with the UDF/ISO setting to see if that makes a difference on my Apex ... if not I'll try another using UDF 1.05 to see if that does it .............
"No freeman shall be debarred the use of arms." - THOMAS JEFFERSON .. 1776 -
Karl,
If the files are compiled correctly you should have 2 folders for your movie ... a AUDIO_TS (nothing in here) and a VIDEO_TS which has the movie files. If you double click on, say for example VTS_01_1.VOB your player should play that portion (limit 1 GB) of the movie. Drag these 2 folders into Nero using the following settings:
1.DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO)
2.No Mulitsession
3.ISO settings ISO level 1,ISO 9660 (Joliet is disabled)
All ISO restrictins Disabled (Allow path depths etc OFF)
4.UDF Settings on UDF 1.02 (best compatibility)
After about 40 minutes (my system) you should have a playable movie!"No freeman shall be debarred the use of arms." - THOMAS JEFFERSON .. 1776 -
Every movie I burnt with Nero UDF/ISO mode, with joliet checked, will play with my Sony and Mintek players, as well as DVD roms. Why everybody says uncheck joliet?
After downloaded the latest 7b version every time I click burn it will bring up a window asking me to save it as a image? I can't seems to disable that and make it burn directly to disc like before. Finally I gave up and uninstalled it then reinstall the oringinal 5.5.10 and it allows me to burn directly to disc again, and they all play. -
IMPORT or DRAG the files you downloaded into an authoring application, NOT NERO
EG: MyDVD, or ULEAD or PINNACLE DVD Authoring that hopefully came bundled with your DVD burner.
If it accepts the downloaded files format (you didn't state what you got)
It will spend hours transcoding them to the DVD format , MPEG-2, so be prepared to spend some time re-authoing t your downloaded clips -
If my file is already in MPG format how do I burn it to play on my standalone???
-
you need to import the files into a dvd authoring program, such as DVDIT, ReelDVD, DVD Lab, etc... and author your dvd.
once you have authored your dvd, you burn the authored files to disc.
check the How To Author section at left for more info.

I have a Mustek DV300 which I got for the reason that the Region Code Protection could be unlocked
I noticed that nealy all of my DVD's burned with the Nero DVD_VIDEO template don't play correctly on this player although they will work fine on the PC and on my Sony DVD player.
I found the original post in this thread a bit accidentally and following up on that (after two DVDs unplayable on the MUSTEK) I came to the conclusion that for my player it is essential to use the ISO/UDF template in Nero with the defaults (UDF 1.02 physical partition) and that the compilation must include the AUDIO_TS folder (empty) as well as the VIDEO_TS folder.
In fact, Nero does seem to recognize this type of compilation because the folder icons become a little different, the message 'Sorting DVD video files' appears when the burning process starts, and if you save the compilation it has the suffix _DVD appended to the default name.
The file sorting may be as crucial as the UDF 1.02 since the tabletop DVD players probably expect the files on the DVD to be stored in a certain order.
The problems with the DVD_VIDEO template would be cured if Nero had an UDF tab in the compilation properties where you could specify UDF 1.02 as the filesystem type.
This thread is already pretty long and I don't know whether someone already posted something similar. If so, my apologies for the duplication.

I'm at the end of my nerves .....
Got my PC now for two weeks (which doesn't mean that I'm a PC Newbie) and tried everything with NERO to burn a DVD-R or DVD-RW wjich will be readable by my MEDIENCOM Stand alone Player ... no way!!!
Now I gonna burn al my PC-authored DVD Files with my other machine .... a MAC using Roxio's TOAST as I do it since 1 1/2 years with no problems! There are no options of UDF Types or something like that you just move the DVD Folders into it and burn! That's the way it has to be. I don't know why NERO's engeneers aren*t able to do a professional developer job like Roxio did already years ago!

By the way in all other cases I like my new PC! -
Hello
I agree with kvmn121 ...
If you need to burn a DVD-R from a set of files in a VIDEO_TS directory just use the "classic" version of ImgTools to make an image then use DVD Decrypter to burn the image to your DVD recordable.
The excellent doom9 website has a guide as to how to do this. For instance the guide they have on using DVD2ONE has a section on how to do this.

hi tumbar
thks for yr message but i dont have that option in my nero!! My version is 5.5.3.5...any more help please -
Hello
NERO is crap for DVD creation. If your source is one or more mpeg files use Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2. If your source is a VIDEO_TS directory with DVD format files (such as the output of DVD2ONE among other programs) use the "classic" version of ImgTools to create an image and then burn with DVD Decrypter.
Both ImgTools ("classic version" ... this is important) and DVD Decrypter can be downloaded for free from the doom9 website. These programs are both "freeware" and do not require any money for a registration code etc.
Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2 is not free but the price is very reasonable (MSRP is $50.00) and it is the best of the easy-to-use DVD authoring programs in terms of making a compatable DVD video (also works great for VCD).
Forget NERO already!!!

try a Google search for Nero, or go to the Tools section at left and look for it - that will get you to their page for update downloads.

I disagree. Nero works fine, either with the older versions burning in UDF 1.02, or with newer versions as a dvd-video disc. And while DVD Decrypter works great, IMG Tool does not - I have followed the guides here and at doom9, and have gotten nowhere.
I'd love to be able to work with a freeware suite (Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and Img Tool) but since it works, I'm sticking with Nero for any authored or compressed (9 to 5) discs.

Finally it worked!!!
I downloaded the latest NERO update from NEROs site and wrote a Video DVD using NEROs UDF/ISO Template with the ISO1 + UDF 1.02 Option and unchecking all Joliet checkboxes.

In 5.5.3.5 I think you have to go through the UDF/ISO DVD compilation
to burn your DVD. Use UDF 1.02 and try burning to a DVD-RW (or an
image). If it says 'DVD video files sorted' at the beginning then you should
be OK.
As discussed in this thread, the DVD_VIDEO template only works with the
newer players.
