Hi,
The only thing you are doing wrong is that you are using Nero to burn your dvds.
It does not seem to have got across yet but there is a SOFTWARE BUG in nero. It will not produce compliant DVD's and menus break when burning DVD's from nero.
Use a different package!
And inform ahead of your software problem.
Also all these work arounds might work in some cases etc are needed because there is a BUG or BUGs! If there wasn't any bug you would not have to prat around with settings. You would just select DVD Video dump your files and burn and it would work.

I used to have problems with Nero like others here. And the method in this thread is NOT the correct way to do it.
With my Sony DRU500A, I found that the following settings created a working disc in Nero 5.5.9.17.0 that would play on many standalones:
DVD-ROM UDF/ISO
Check ISO level 1
Check ISO9660
Uncheck Joliet
Uncheck anything in "relax ISO restrictions"
UDF 1.02
I also have RecordNow Max 4.5 (don't confuse that with RecordNow DX), but it has a BUG where it still records my cheapie Accu DVDRs at 2x even when changing all the settings to 1x. The write dialog menu & test will also work at 1x, but actual burning time suddenly drops from about 60 minutes to 30 minutes within a couple minutes after starting the burn. The workaround for me was to use Nero for these disks. RecordNow DX may not have this problem. (I'm using DRU500A.) -
Well, I'm not sure it's really Nero's problem...
I ripped the xXx and kept the main movie, went through IfoEdit and got new vts sectors and ifo. Then I put all into a VIDEO_TS folder and created the AUDIO_TS folder. Then I used Nero 5.5.10.0 with UDF/IFO mode, unchecked joliet (just like jasonK posted earlier) and burnt on DVD+RW. It came out perfectly! Put into my Sony DAV-S300 player and it starts automatically! But it will not play in my Mintek 1600, which suppose to play +RW and +R.
Plus, it will NOT play with my DVD drives (both Sony DRU-500A and a 16X DVD drive) with PowerDVD, which I don't care because I never watch DVDs on PC.
So, I guess the problem is compatability issue with burning methods and standalone players then. I have yet another player to try, Sony DVP-S330, that my son has in his dorm. I'll try in tonight after I took him back to school and see if that will play.
I think VCDHelp should conduct a poll here and collect info on burning softwares and modes used and the results when played with different players, then maybe they can compile the info (I know it's a lot of work) and generate a chart (just like the players and writers charts here) so people can determine by themselves which way to go based on their equipments. And who knows, maybe a one-for-all burning software/method will come out of this and can be used by everybody on every machine. -
Alright, tested xXx (+RW) in my son's Sony DVP-330 player and it wouldn't play.
I then re-burnt it with ISO this time and it'll play in my Mintek 1600 now but not my Sony DAV-S300! And both of my DVD drives still wouldn't play (or should I say PowerDVD wouldn't play).
Now interestingly enough there is nother lead going on with some same members discussing about RecordNow that some of you maybe interested in reading it: http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=437786#437786 The reason that I brought this up is that before I switch to Nero several days ago I was using RecordNow that came with my Sony DRU-500A to burn, and I had all kinds of problems with it. However, I did successfully burn one DVD with it, which is Impostors that fits on one disc and I didn't have to do anything with it just rip and burn without going through IfoEdit. That disc plays in all my players, including my DVD drives! Now could it be that I've never modified it? Or, could it be that discs burnt with RecordNow are more compatable with players? I don't know. I'll keep trying other methods and maybe even other softwares and see what turns out, and I'll post my results later. -
Just thought I'd add my experiences to the thread...
I only discovered the method recommended in this topic a couple of days ago. I've produced a number of DVDs for people at work, and until two days ago I burnt them using Nero 5.5.9.17 and the DVD Video setting. I have 3 DVD players: Samsung 807, Philips DVDR890 and Dansai 955. Using the DVD Video method, the disks played on all three.
Then I tried the UDF method suggested in this thread. Now the disks won't play on the Samsung 807 (by far the oldest of the 3 standalones). I also noticed slightly jerkier motion on the Dansai.
I then tried Instant CD/DVD and RecordNow Max. This time, the disks would play on the Samsung, but there were unusual lines, almost like shadows on faces, etc. So, far from being more compatible with older players, in my case the opposite seems to be true.
As far as compatibility with the players of people I've supplied the disks to, it has been a mixed bag. In most cases, the Nero DVD Video method disks do seem to favour newer players, but on all players, the success rate is still greater than the 80% mark given for DVD+R. I have yet to receive feedback from those people who were unable to play the earlier Nero disks as to whether they can now play the UDF 1.02 disks.
There appears to be no consistency with any of this.Carts -
You guys must have a lot of free time on your hands. I have given up on Nero. Who needs to waste time doing all these funky workarounds?
Just give me a program that WORKS and I will be happy.
The newer verion of Nero VE was worse than version 5.5.9.17
The quality of the video was never satisfactory for me. -
I've now given up on Instant CD/DVD.
I tried version 6.5 tonight and on two occasions out of three it has thrown up an error after writing .6mb of the disk. The error is similar to one I used to get with an earlier version of DVD Decrypter when trying to do an iso copy of a DVD, something about an ASPI command error.
It resulted in both drives being undetectable in RecordNow Max, even after a reboot.
I had to reinstall RecordNow, and so far that hasn't let me down.
It's a shame VOB couldn't sort out the software before releasing it.
The two disks are no longer usable on the PC, but my Philips 890 reports them as empty disks. With any luck it will allow me to burn to them, but I won't be able to find out for a day or two.Carts -

I have a problem , when backing up my DVD's I do everything ok and everything goes ok with the exception of the burning part I use nero .17 and rnm 4.5, i burned the same dvd using the two programs and it will play on some of my standalones and not in others based on what program i use i.e
1. barbershop using nero will play on toshiba sd2700, panasonic rv32 but not in daewood
2. barbeshop using rnm 4.5 will play on daewood but not in toashiba 2700 or pana rv32
can some one point my out to a good read on the proper settings of either program so i can make dvd's that will play on all of my 3 standalone
i'm using ritek -r media TIA -
Just thought I would share my own experience, I own the Sony DRU500a and the only thing I've been able to burn with nero are coasters, most other programs give mixed results, however, every DVD I've burned with Gear Pro plays in everything I own. This program was recommended in a guide I read. You can download a trial version and see if it makes the difference like it did for me. It is an expensive program to buy, but we do what we must, right.

Colud you post what settings do you use under gear please.
As i have the Sony Drive myself and I'm having trouble burning dvd's that will play on all 3 of my standalones. -
I am using 5.5.9.17 but I have no DVD-ROM option, only DVD-Video ? Any advice ?
-
I've got the same thing- just DVD-video. The discs I've burned work great in my sony ns715p. I'm just worried about the extra copies I'm sending to my parents and my in-laws. Is there a way I can adjust the settings a little more just to make sure the discs will be more compatible with other players?
-
Here is a link to the guide recommending Gear Pro.
http://digital-forums.com/dvd2dvdr/part6.htm
One note though, I was checking out the various settings within the program, at the bottom of the main window if you click on the settings button next to the drop down box where you select your burner, and then select the DVD settings tab there is a check box which reads "close DVD+R disc as multi session" I am not sure what this does or the reason for the distinction but I have only been using DVD-R media any ways, so heads up if your using DVD+R.
Good Luck -
I read through this thinking it would be the answer to my problems. I burned 6 dvds so far, backing up Y Tu Mama Tambien. I first started w/ nero, then nero UDF 1.02, then UDF/IOS 1.02, then a couple goes in Instant CD/DVD. So far, the DVD-RW version of this movie play in my Philips DVD 701 (the kind you can't upgrade the firmware), however the DVD-Rs, Princos, will not play. Then, getting ready to go to best buy, i burnt a Sifl and Olly dvd i made from VHS tapes so that i could try it out at the store in a couple of players, i popped it in my philips, and it worked flawlessly. I used Nero UDF/ISO 1.02. Could i have been compiling the DVD wrong in DVD Maestro? I'm not real sure whats causing the problem.

Has anyone tried Nero 5.5.10.7 released 31 Jan 2003.
My mates DVD player does not play Nero Burnt DVDs, but mines OK so I cannot test. -
I have been having the same problems since yesterday. I have recorded DVDs with NERO and they played on standalone players, until last night.
I just downgraded version 5.5.10.0 to 5.5.9.14 (this is what I had) and burnt a DVD+RW with UDF and UDF/ISO.
They both worked fine first time.
This, I suppose, strenghtens the possibility of a bug in 5.5.10. The fact that there is a new version out since Jan 31st (I can't get it to download - I am thrown outof the site with a "too many connections on MySQL", shows there may be a plague.
And the discovery that (sarcasm) Nero are using MySQL on their site, shows a lot. MySQL is a fine personal database product, but I would not use it for a commercial site.
To get back to the issue, if you are using version 5.5.10, stop. Any workarounds will get you nowhere. Downgrade to version 5.5.9.14 or 5.5.9.17 to get peace of mind.

Just my 2 cents on Nero.
I have burned DVD's for 60+ DIFFERENT people using the Nero Wizard (DVD-Video) using version 5.5.9.17.
Only 4 people reported not being able to playback the DVD-r's on their standalones. And, after researching it turned out it was the fact that their DVD players were older and did not fully support DVDr playback.
So, Nero works for me, primarily using Ritek unbranded DVD-r's.
Burner: Pioneer A04
PC: Athlon 1600, 896MB RAM -
fyi, just burned a DVD-R disk on Nero v5.5.10.7 via DVD Video Compilation and it plays just fine on my Sony NS300.
-
I have a different problem. If I use anything other than Nero's DVD Video (Wizard mode), It won't play in anything but my computer. I tried Record Now, Vob Instant and the only one that works is Nero. The players I have are Apex 1200, Genica Kalua 800, & Mintek 1600. So I'll stick with Nero 5.5.9.17.
-
I use Nero 5.5.10.0 (I'm now downloading 5.5.10.7), and Nero doesn't work for me burning DVD video. I don't think the UDF/ISO filesystem is an issue for me.
I burned a movie in DVD-R with Nero (DVD Video); at the beginning plays fine on the standalone DVD or computer, but at the middle of the movie gets jerky and as the movie goes on, it's impossible to watch... The only coaster that has made my Sony DRU500A. I have been using the same brand DVD-R (Apple certified) with MyDVD and Ulead DVD-WS and every DVD will play perfectly; I have burned over 15 DVD-R and not a single problem, but the only burnt with Nero was a coaster...
I hope the new version has fixed this, I won't use Nero for DVD video unless I see that it's working well for many people. -
Just to echo some other comments above...
I always use Nero 5.5.9.17 in DVD-Video mode (from the wizard). I've never had any problems with the discs in any standalone player.
The best way to find out which burning method works best for you is trial and error. Everybody's system is so different. Keep a +/-RW handy and burn away! When you get it right, just go with it. -
My friend has a OLD DVD Player that plays VCD but does not play home VCDs. My question is: if I burn a VCD (I say VCD not DVD) with the same burned method but using VCD template and UDF 1.02 do the OLD DVD Player can read it ?
Tks, -
I have tried burning with Nero using all of the different methods. I found that...
UDF 1.02: Works with my newer citizen dvd player and ps2
UDF 1.05: Works with my older Panasonic RV-31
UDF/ISO 1.02: Works with nothing
I could not find a way to burn with nero that worked with all three systems. I then tried using Prassi PrimoDVD and it worked with all three systems. I recommend not even bothering with nero. I know this subject has been beaten to death but i just wanted to give my 2¢. -
We need someone to do the following:
1) Have several troublesome DVD players/game boxes/etc.
2) Burn a DVD+-RW (don't make a coaster) with all combinations:
1 - DVD-VIDEO
2 - UDF 1.02
3 - UDF 1.02 x-box compatibility checked
4 - UDF/ISO 1.02
5 - UDF/ISO 1.02 x-box checked
6 - UDF 1.05
7 - UDF 1.05 x-box checked
Anyone up to it (make it a short clip to save time).Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin' -
They have just updated from nero55107 to nero55107b so they found more bugs or someone managed to alert them of more bugs. 3days after the inital release according to file stamp on ftp site.
ftp://ftp.ahead.de/Nero55107b.exe 03/02/2003 06:42PM 13,712,184
ftp://ftp.ahead.de/Nero55107.exe 31/01/2003 06:53PM 13,703,383
I'm still not trying it. DVD-R's are to expensive to waste. -
Testing ??? I don't know.... everything is moving so fast. There is Nero 5.5.9.17.0, 5.5.9.17.1, 5.5.10.0, 5.5.10.7, 5.5.10.7b. My burner (Sony DRU-500A) had firmware 1.0(what was first ?), 1.0d, (1.0e-not used), 1.0f and now there is 1.0g. Everybody is using different hardware setup (IDE controlers, DMA settings, VIA or not chipset). Media can vary by batch, seller or date purchased (not to mention brand). Even same model of DVD-player can vary in supported features by date when it was manufactured. So how can we do valid test ? I am sceptical about this...
Nobody knows what version are we discussing in this post anymore....Pinnacle Studio 8 and DV home video editing (ver.9 already home) -
anyone having problems tonight connecting to nero.com or ahead.de?
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin' -
I have tried using this method to burn MIB 2. It is only 3.5 gig.
I went for dvd udf 1.02
The dvd-r burnt 100% but will not play in my pc or my standalone (Panasonic LV50). The manual says it should play dvd-r discs
I used the Sony DW-U10A (set to the cable select jumper) drive to burn using version 5.9.5.14
The writer or the dvd drive will not play the disk when using the pc software.
I used Bulqpaq media with no burning errors. Stupidly I used a -r disc.
Should I have used the udf/iso templete ? Or create a image and burn with another program ?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
email to dbisset@willows.fslife.co.uk
Thanks in advance.
