  1. Hi all,

sorry if this ones been asked before I did do a search b4 I posted this... Well here goes...

I've been ripping DVD's to SVCD using smartripper and dvdx and the results are fine on my computer.. (playing in win dvd both ripped unburned mpeg and SVCD disc version).

but when I put the SVCD's into my acoustic solutions 551 standalone, the voice is out of sync with the video.. This leads me to believe its the standalone cannot handle the files for some reason... although i know SVCD's are compatible wiv this machine?!"?! I also have the same problem with 'some' files downloaded from the net? Added to this some files, which seem to be OK in the voice sync department, or at least hardly noticable, go out of sync after u fast forward the disc? (maybe they would go out of sync if i didnt fast forward and left it to play either way?)

I have tried burning at the slowest speed my CR writer will handle 4x, but im not seeing an improvement? I am also using good quality branded 80mins memorex CDR's. I've also tried 2 other brands of media at 4x burn and the results are the same. Plus I have tried them on a friends standalone and also get the same results.

This is really a problem wiv home made SVCD's I 'rarley' get it wiv downloaded ones?!

whats the best software to use for ripping and encoding if i'm not using it all ready?

    n e ideas n e one ... this is really *%"!^% me off?

    thx in advance

Its possible that your SVCD isn't multiplexed correctly. I don't use dvdx so I don't know how good it is in this regard. If you want to ensure that your SVCD is multiplexed correctly than you absolutely must use bbmpeg.

It is also possible that your dvd player requires the SVCD scan offsets to maintain sync. Most dvd players do not require these, or even recognize them, which is why most multiplexers don't add them. If you use BBmpeg to multiplex than you can include the scan offsets. On my old apex I had to have the offsets otherwise the playback would get terribly out of sync.

As for those disks which you have already burnt, try repeatedly pausing and resuming it til it syncs again. This usually does the trick, at least for a while.

If you are unable to get the SVCD to maintain sync during seeking then you may just have to work around it. Add chapters to your SVCD using VCDEasy and just use these to navigate.

  3. did you check the dvd player compatibility section of this website? it'll show you what your dvd player can handle, especially the max bitrate (video + audio)..it could be your SVCD's bitrate exceeds the max bitrate your player can handle

  4. Yeah well I bought the playa cos it had good reviews and covers all the popular formats and bitrates etc, so no problems there..

I will try the BBmepg plugin for dvdx next thx...
but for some reason, i'm not feeling confident that it will work

thx for the re[plies so far, i'll keep watching the thread.
