  1. Can someone give me some advice on how to copy a dvd to dvd-r or dvd-rw? I would like to make backups of all my DVD's. I just got my SOny DRU-500a but I am having a ton of problems. i have went through 3 different guides on the net and had no luck burning anything that works. I follow them to the last detail and everything goes fine. I only have Sonic MyDVD and Record NOw that came with my player to burn with though. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Devon

Though I've never tried using either of those programs to make backups I am familiar with them as they both came with my Pioneer DVD-R and to tell you the truth I've had little success with either one. My suggestion would be to bite the bullet and get yourself a copy of Nero for a couple of reasons... 1. It's the program most of the guides use and refer to, 2. It seems to be the most consistant and reliable program for DVD burning (that I've used anyway) 3. It's also a great CD burning software.

The two programs you have are more geared toward simple DVD authoring and things like that. If memory serves, RecordNow is good for data backup and little else though I might be thinking of a different program.

I, too just got my DRU-500A and have successfully backed up several DVDs. First you should know that this burner has issues with some brands of media. I recommend searching the DVD writers section of this forum for info on what works. Apart from that, I would recommend reading/following Derrows IFOEdit guides, Doom9's IFOEdit guides, and Cretin's guides. IFOEdit can be a bit confusing at first, but you'll get it with persistence. I have used MyDVD and don't recommend because it requires PCM audio format which takes up a lot of disc space. Recordnow is a burning only program which works well, but is rather limited. Forget about any guides that use DVD Decrypter unless you already have it. Although it is supposedly the best, it is no longer available. I have been using DVD Decrypter, IFOEdit, and Recordnow MAX. If you don't want to go through all that, maybe try DVD X Copy. It sounds like its very easy to use. Best of luck!

  4. dvd decrypter is gone now too, along with maestro. I swear, they will stop at nothing to keep us from burning. Well... we will stop at nothing to burn punks....... so take that.

  5. I don't know the reason DVD Decrypter was taken down from Doom9 but it is still available here.
