I decided to make a new post even though it relates to "My recipe for creating awesome-looking VCD's" (http://www.vcdhelp.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?topic=48818&forum=9&15) because there is already a lot of different information and questions and I don't want this one to get confused with the rest.
OK the question-
How big is the avi file that is being created? I have a movie ( about 50min and 10gb) which i was trying to conver to avi. Does avi take up more space than mov, less space or about the same?
thanks
JB

AVI is just the file format. The size is determined by the codec used.

Im not exactly sure what a codec is. Im using quicktime 5 to encode the movie. Is that what you mean by codec? In which case do you know if quicktime encodes the files bigger than the original movie?
Thanks-

Forget my stupid question- it was easy to find the answer!
I converted a smaller mov file to avi and i see it takes up the same amount of space!
