  1. I am trying to convert an asf file to mpeg to burn on to disk and play on my DVD player. I have used asftools to convert to an avi format. The sound doesn't match the picture. I also tried to convert the newly created avi to mpeg using TMPGEnc. Even though it appeared to be converting a file was created at what seemed the right length of time but no sound or picture was available.

ASF files are hard to deal with, they don't have a fixed frame rate. Any conversion ends up adding or dropping frames to bring it to a constant level, and if it doesn't do it close enough to exactly right the end result will be out of sync. You might try playing with the different ASFtools "convert to avi" settings, or maybe open the ASF in virtualdub and frameserve it to tmpgenc.

In truth, I have yet to see an ASF file with good enough quality to be worth converting.
