  1. HI!
Im a total nOOb in DVD-Ripping.

I tried to though, usin' several guides. But i got the following problem: Can somebody tell me how to eleminate those black bars at top and bottom?

I mean if you got a 16:9 movie and you want to rip it, is it necessary to have those black bars???-if you "cut" them off, the files would get smaller, dont they?

I used smartripper to get the dvd files and encoded it with DVDx.

But how can i get rid of those dem' black bars???Would be nice if someone tells me...

for a 16:9 movie if you want to watch it how it should be watched you have to have the black bars. Otherwise you have two options, either stretch the video then everything looks too tall, or crop off the edges and zoom into the area you haven't cropped. I couldn't tell you how to do either of these things because I would never want to do either. Most full screen movies are cropped and zoomed in but the area that gets cropped can move around and pan to the area of the screen with the most action. If you crop it yourself you might run into a screen where the action is on one side of the screen that you cropped off and you'll completely miss what is happening. Read this if you want to learn more http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/aspectratios.htm. Taking out the black bars has nothing to do with filesize. the only thing that will affect filesize is bitrate and changing that affects quality too.

With DVDx you should use the zoom funtion this will reduce the black bars
file size will remain the same.I normally use med zoom or panscan if anamorfic wide screen.
