  1. With my Sony DRU-500A burner I have tried to make a 1:1 copy of a DVD. One I bought in the shop.
The ripped files played perfectly with Power DVD. I copied the files on my blank DVD+RW disc with Nero 5.5.9.17. The home-made copy played perfectly with Power-DVD, but my standalone DVD-player Pioneer DV-454 won't play them. "Can't play disc".
Does anybody have any idea why? I copied a VHS-movie on another +RW blank and it worked perfectly, also on my standalone player.

    My system:
    Pentium III 1000 MHz
    40 GB + 2x 160 GB HDD
    Sony DRU-500A burner
    1,25 GB internal memory

    Thanks for any help,

  2. hey check to see if your 454 is dvdr campatible, also some standalones have problems with +r/rw so try running some -r, i have the 555 pioneer and never have a prob. with -r/rw. this sounds like a compatibility issue with the standalone recognizing the +.

  3. Hi Wetmonkey,

Thanks for your answer. However, I have many other DVD+R and 1 other DVD+RW that I have filled with VHS-tape content. But these play perfectly on my DV-454. So my player is able to play +R/RW, but not just this one.
And I have no idea why.

  4. how did you make a 1:1 copy with SonyDRu500. It depends on that too. And when You used nero to burn did it give any error saying it may not be playable in some players.

  5. @sumibas

I have used the latest version of Nero i.e. 5.5.9.17. The burning went perfect, no error messages at all and no warnings.
I have used the option copy DVD-Video, I have copied all VOB-, IFO- and BUP-files onto the blank disc.
    Power-DVD: plays perfect
    Standalone: "Can't play disc"

  7. I have a Pioneer 340 that Plays +R and +RW so I Know the player plays them,
My problem is after I formated my HD anything I record wont play now on the pioneer but WILL PLAY on other stand alones I have come to the conclusion that the Pioneer req something set or un set in the burning program but what I dont know as my early attemps that were sucsessfull must of been by luck I keep changing different things but no luck yet.

I have both and have succesfully burned DVD both -r +R and +RW and played them on my JVC video player.

When I say both, I mean the newest version of Nero and a DRU500A with the newest firmware.

  10. Thanks for all your remarks. I have done some tests in the meantime. I have installed Veritas Record Now that came with the burner.
After burning the same movie on the same DVD+RW it plays fine on my standalone player.
It seems indeed that Nero and the Sony don't like each other. I haven't updated my firmware of my Sony yet. This maybe a reason. But with Record Not it works fine.
Thanks anyway for your help and advise, guys.

I don't doubt there still are some issues to workout with Nero and the DRU500, it's support is pretty recent.. I havent had any issues myself though.

Sounds like the pioneer is a bit picky when it comes to burned media. I had something similar the other night when I screwed up an IFO and burned it, wouldnt play in my JVC standalone player but would play fine in an apex and a different DVD player.

Does anyone know if Nero actually does anything to the IFO's when they are dragged in before burning? I have had nero complain about the structure of the DVD or something to that fact, that it wont work or something possibly, and then I still burn anyhow and it works. (because I have verfied it works with a PC dvd player against video_ts.ifo.)

Also anyone know of any other burning software I can use to do DVD besided Nero? Something I can just drag the ifo's and VOB's into and it wont analyse anything, it will just burn what I tell it to burn. (But for DVD video)

    Thanks

  12. good news for the burn, hey make sure to update your record now to 4.5 the update is on stompinc.com. ya have to remeber that dvd burning is no where near perfected like cd burning there are dozens of variables and not all the the tamales like to work in the same basket. media, recorder, recording software, standalone all effect the end result
    Hasta luego
